Tire hitchhiker

I was out for a test drive with my new short shifter and had the windows down. I heard this clicking coming from the wheel and found this little slice of heaven. Its a hex head srew or bolt of some kind. I went to tries plus to get it taken care of but they were closed at 8, I'll have to wait till tomorrow to get it out. Any tire shop guys know if this is too close to the side wall for a patching? I have a spare tire to swap if need be but I hope they can just pull it and patch it or whatever.

That is right on the line. Most places will want to sell you a tire. May be too big to plug, too.

 

Yeah, should be easily fixable as it's a ways off from the sidewall. Also, it's spelled "heaven."

Well, most places will try to sell you tires regardless . You may be on to something with the size, though. Never had to patch anything that large.

 

I've seen a timing belt cover bolt go through a tire, horizontally
lol...you know who you are

 

I had a 10mm combination wrench in mine once. Only flat I've ever had, too.

 

Well thats just the head off the srcew, the threaded part is smaller I'm sure. I would look but I may have a flat.

You can plug that no problem. I had a sheet rock screw stuck in my potenza G009 a couple years ago. Tires were relatively new. I got the DIY plug kit from
NAPA. Pulled the screw, reamed it out, put the plug in (w/ goo) and it worked like a charm. That tire never leaked any air for the next 30-40k miles I put on it. hella cheaper than a new tire and you wont need to have any shaving done.

 

I used to work at discount tire and they'd typically patch that no problem unless it entered at a weird angle.

 

Last I checked Discount Tire plugs tires free of charge. regardless of where you got the tires. I've used them twice for it. Nothing beats free.

yep, sam's does it fo free. the guys at the tire dept at sam's here in Duluth know me very well :biggrin:

 

I would have it plugged and patched (from the inside of course) shouldn't cost much more than 25

 

I had it done at discount tire this afternoon for free.

 

Free = plug I'm assuming?

We're starting to use plug-patches here at Lexus. They're pretty frickin sweet. Plug in the hole connected to a glue-on patch on the inside.

Ide have no problem putting a high quality rope in there...Hell I did it on my motorcyle a few years ago (apparently a huge no no) but i was told by a guy who raced at BIR it was okay, and his tires had countless plugs in them :laugh:
