Anyone with good experience ordering tires and wheels from tirerack.com? Just want to feel assured before buying since i can't seem to find a good winter setup, most i've seen have been $500-700 and i can get a set new from tirerack for under $700. Thanks.
Ordered from them plenty of times with absolutely 0 issues. In fact I just ordered another $1100 of tires for the race car. They ship from Indiana so delivery time is usually a few days.
I'll also recommend Justin at Vision Speed Works. He is a local guy and fellow autox'er. Very helpful, great prices, great service. Contact him for a quote - he got me a great deal on winter tires last season. http://visionspeedworks.com/
Thanks guys. These will be going on a 2004 wrx. And what generally is a good tire size? Should I stick with 16" or go with 17"? These will be my first winter tires/wheels i will be having so i'm not too sure on what is best overall.
Good deal, forget to mention that he mounts and balances too. Edit: I just saw your other question too. I would go for 16", 205/55-16 (stock size). 16's are cheaper and also have more side wall to soak up bumps and pot holes.
Agree'd on the winter tires being 16" instead of 17". You will have more options, better prices (on both rims and tires). If you are buying a package it might be easier to just buy from TireRack but I would also recommend Justin if you are looking for tires.
Discounttiredirect.com can be another good source. I bought 4 General Altimax arctic snow tires for cheap with tire warranty and valve stems. I had discount tire mount and lifetime balance them for $16 a tire. my total cost was under $500 Looks like they have a $40 instant savings for ordering online now. Brings the price of the tires to under $400 when you take out the valve stem prices. I bought these for my 2004 WRX wagon. Had the same things (in 15" size) on my Impreza OBS wagon and loved them.
I've used both Tirerack.com and Discount Tire in the past with great success. I highly recommend either one of them, my current set of snow wheels/tires came from Tirerack.
You can also go to Imola to buy tires too as they are an authorized Tirerack dealer. My last set I bought from them and they also can mount/balance tires. Great guys to deal with. I'll most likely buy my next set from them as soon as stuff in my house stops crapping out and eating up my winter tire fund.
Two years ago I bought General Alitmax Arctics for extremely cheap on walmart.com. They ship from 'site to store' for free, and some of the mounting and balancing was free too. With a used set of 16"s from this site, I ended up spending right around $550. Actually, Right now they're selling the same tire in 205/55/16 for $89/tire and there's a $70 rebate. That's $286 for all 4 tires, with free shipping. http://www.walmart.com/ip/General-Altimax-Arctic-Tire-205-55R16SL-91Q-BW/19889593
Actually, after looking again, the rebate is only good for $50 on those tires. Still a great deal at $306 shipped.
I'll echo previous statements, have ordered from both and haven't had an issue. Tire rack was a little slow on my last order since they called me to release my Supra tires, they were a non-OEM size, but aside from that I've been happy.
Good replies, thanks guys. I actually ended up ordering from discounttiredirect.com, it was the cheapest i could get for $711 wheels and snow tires shipped. I also ended up with the General Altimax Arctic on some 16's. Owned the car for 5 yrs, first time with snow tires. Can't wait.
Samaritan Tire has matched Tire Rack on one set and beat them on another set for me. Service is great and I don't worry about my wheels getting scratched. If I needed to buy tires and wheels at the same time without TPMS sensors being programmed to the car, I would probably use Tire Rack.
