Hey everyone, Who has a Tom Tom, and what do you think of it? We're taking a road trip next week and I thought it might not be a bad idea to get one just to help us along. Yes, I can read a friggin map, but I like gadgets and thought it would be cool. Worth it? Yes / No? (circle one)
Love navigation. We have it in both our vehical's and I have it on my cell phone. I think it's worth every penny, but we do travel alot and it comes in super handy.
I love maps. I trust myself more than any navigation system. I guess I am old style. Part of the trip is also looking at a map and figuring out where you are and learning the territory. If you really wanna throw money for a navi system. I think nowadays all the known brands are pretty good.
I've never used any of the on-dash GPS units, but what I have done is use a computer-based GPS with mapping software (Delorme Street Atlas USA or Topo USA). I love being able to head out virtually anywhere and know that I'll be able to find where I'm going no matter what, and that I can find my way back no matter what. This matters when you're in the middle of the forests around OFR and LSPR. Of course, if you let Topo (rather than Street Atlas) pick the shortest route, you end up with some veeerry interesting roads (right Kelly?).
my buddies love their nuvis, which they all bought together on some sort of group discount. not sure how that worked, but ive borrowed a nuvi 300 and loved it. I too like using a map though
I have a garmin, that works great. I don't use it to much for personal use, but I use it daily for work
Garmin is the way to go. I have a garmin handheld unit that I use for my bike, but it has all of the city maps loaded into it so I can also use it in the car. I plan on getting a Nuvi 600 at some point. Very slick. It even has the traffic management stuff built right into the unit, for a small monthly fee. Just my $.02.
DO NOT get a tom tom, Garmin is the best out there and one of the cheapest I believe. tom tom may have been the first but garmin definately did things better. the tom tom is very inaccurate and does not re calculate when you take a wrong turn.... a bunch of little things like that
I've used both Garmin and Tom Tom units. My personal Tom Tom is a very basic one, without the text-to-speech ("turn right" instead of "turn right on main street"). I do prefer the interface on the Garmin units over the TT units. I would snag the cheapest one that has text-to-speech that's in your price range.
The family and I are going on a road in two weeks and the wifey and I are looking at some. Personally thinking Magellan, what do you all think? Are there any that reports on weather?
hello have you guys tried the navigon gps? Anyway which of the Garmin would you recommend? I am thinking about getting one soon! Thanks Also where do u guys mount them? I know in MN it's illegal to have things mounted to the windshield, or having tint that is darker than a snowball.
I think all of them are pretty good. I think alot of them run Navteq maps. But be warned the the updates is where they get you for extra dough... I believe nokia just bought navteq...
I'd get a nuvi 360--the price (on Amazon) is right, and it has some pretty nice features. Text-to-speech, bluetooth for your phone, mp3 etc.
