Changed out my tranny fluid last night. The car is an 05 STi with just under 30k on the clock. I have not had any tranny issues, just the occasional difficulty getting it to go into gear. No grinding though.
I have done a ton of research into all the options out there. I initially planned to go with Scotty's but changed my mind (due to Redline's recommendation NOT to use that fluid in the 6 spd). I finally decided to go with Valvoline Syn Power 75W90. I was able to find it at Carquest for around $11 a bottle.
The change itself went smooth. The smaller 14mm bolt was a PITA to get loose. I put 3.5 qt into the car and took it for a quick spin. That brought the fluid to the low mark on the dipstick. I added another .5 qt and the level was perfect.
I've got about 60 miles on the car and so far things are looking great. The shifts are smoother and it drops into gear much easier. The notchy feel isn't gone but it's significantly improved. A definate improvement over how it felt before the change. I'll keep you guys posted as I get more miles on the car.

hows the shifting compared to stock? It there any improvement or is it a placebo effect? Mine has a hard time getting into gear when its cold.

The shifting feels much better than it did before the change yesterday. I am pretty sure it's not just in my head. I suppose it could be because the old fluid had 30k on it but I doubt it because the old fluid looked surprisingly good.

My transmission was grinding into forth gear when trying to race. Changed the fluid and it shifts perfect.

How much do you want for it ? Is it pre-mixed, or still at the raw ingredient stage ?

If you had a negative experience with the KY you could give Astroglide a try....

For your rear diff, you really don't need anything exotic so synthetic or dino is up to you as long as this is an R160. The R180 has a special fluid from Subaru that's recommended.

I would run dino in anything with gearing... synthetic is toooooo thin... great for engines but IMO not good for teethed parts... some will disagree but 1mth with SYnth in my differential and 3 chipped teeth later...

Is there any difference between the dinos out there? All the arguing I see on this site and others is about synthetic stuff.

BTW, things are still going great with my new fluid. :)

I think I'll stick with the Subaru fluid for my rear diff.
