asking on behalf of someone else - i think they have a 2008-10 wrx. apparently their flywheel and presure plate need to be completely replaced at 78K miles. they're getting quoted something like $2200...

is that possible/reasonable? the symptom that diagnosed this was very difficult to depress the clutch.

i'd think on a mass produced jap car you could buy and replace a whole new rebuilt tranny for less than $2000, never mind $2200 for just some components.

    thanks for the help

When the pressure plate gets worn out, it does get harder to depress the clutch. So it is possible at 7pm, although a little unlikely. Tell your friend to work out their left leg more!

Otherwise that quote is a touch high I think. And you might as well replace the clutch while you are in there too. You should always resurface the flywheel when doing the clutch, which should be cheaper than buying a new one.

what do you think is a reasonable price? and honestly, wouldn't a full rebuilt transmission be cheaper/better then? I can't imagine i'd be more than 8 hour labor so you gotta be able to find a salvage transmission for less than 1600, no?

Get in touch with NF. I don't think it will be anywhere near $2200.

The flywheel and pressure plate are separate from the transmission...so you would still need a new pressure plate and resurfaced flywheel.

Talk to NF. They will help out your friend for a reasonable rate.

thanks for all the responses -- the someone else is my sister in law and she lives in seattle, so no talking to NF unfortunately. i just reached out to the forum because, to me, $2200 for the labor/parts quoted seemed excessive and i wanted to be sure.

    thanks again for your help.
