When 5MT is cold it shudders during 1st gear take off. Was told by some that this is normal for WRX transmissions. Should mention '02 Wagon w/'03 5MT. Not sure of current fluid installed since I am 2nd owner. Tranny fluid looks clean and does not smell burnt. What trans. fluid can I replace it with to reduce/eliminate this shuddering which will not reduce life of tranny? Thanks.
So should not worry about it? or will not repairing cause further damage? Trying to be proactive while logical at the same time so I don't jump to conclusions. Thanks.
How exactly is it shuddering? Is it when you are engaging the clutch in first gear? Does it stop doing it after it warms up? If it is the release bearing like I've delt with replace it when you do the clutch.
"Clutch judder" is common on subarus when it is cold. There was a TSB about it back in the day. Not necessary to replace anything, but if customers made a big enough stink, they would replace several parts with updated ones. (providing the drivetrain warranty was still active). Don't worry about it. You learn to shift around it pretty quick.
Its basicly like a warped rotor, but its a clutch disc, You'll be fine, Ive been dealing with it on mine for the last 100K miles.
Motorhead, follow both Sneefy's and AWD's recommendation, and just deal with it. When your clutch starts slipping, then worry about replacement. It has to do with the pressure plate and not the release bearing. All the WRX (2.0L) clutch parts have since been superceded by different parts, the only one remaining the same is the release (throw-out) bearing. If you can live with the minor shudder, just drive it that way. PS, DO NOT, use a blend/mix of gear oil to try and fix this issue. This has nothing to do synchro's or any internal transmission part. Gear oil (no matter what kind) cannot and will not fix the clutch shudder.
Thanks... Thanks for all the replies. Appreciate the advice which will not cost me $$$ to repair/replace so again the awesome people on this site help another brotha out.
