Hey Guys. I seriously need a tune up so I was thinking of droping the car off at midas or somewhere where they do tune ups but I am a true idoit when it comes to engine bay so please help me and tell me all I need to know WHERE, HOW MUCH, AND WHAT IS OR SHOULD BE INCULDED IN A TUNE UP. All help will be appricated. Mohd
tune ups... hmmm, i'm no professional, but from my experiences with doing my own tune ups on hondas, you'll be getting new spark plugs, spark plug wires, and a distributor cap, if necessary. on a subie? i'm not sure, but that's what you can expect. generic priced items should run roughly approx. $50 or so. if you're looking for performance parts, prices can reach up there somewhere.
Grab a member from here and do it yourself, man! It'll be waaay cheaper and you'll know the jobs done were done right. Here's a general listing of jobs that may need to get done for your tune-up that I've conjured up: oil/filter change tranny fluid change spark plugs brake rotors/pads brake fluid air filter Seafoam (or equivalent) in gas tank--Beware: this stuff made a (girl) friend's car's fuel injectors clog because her fuel system was so dirty. fuel filter
Nice ride and I will second them. It is way cheaper to do it yourself. Most of the things that they do you can do yourself other than maybe power flushing the coolant system. When they say Brake roters/pads that means inspection, and only replacement if needed. You might even change diff fluids if needed, which is mostly dependent on on how many miles....
Ya just grab a member and do it yourself, you will save a bunch of $. BTW: The pic in your sig is HUGE, might want to re-size that for the dial up users.

Yeah, so I was in a hurry before I left minneapolis so I had to get sometype of a tune up. So what I did is I had midas do the fuel filter because I really have no idea how to do it. Then I came to change the spark plugs and wirs my self. For those three things midas wanted to charge me 270$. when I heard that I really snaped because I wanted them to do it because I had other things to take care of, but when I heard that price I said F that just do the fuel filter so that costed about 80$ then I went bought spark plugs and wires and change them but the wires would not go in at all they kept poping out, I have no idea what was the problem, so I just used the old wirs with new plugs. But it still sux because if I new how to change the fuel filter I know it would have been much cheaper.. Mohd
welcome to the joy of automotive repair and maintenance, now see it from my side... Yes it can be $$$$ to pay a store but you have trained technicians that have to be paid, and a store that has to cover costs.. or why open a business... oh yeah and make some profit along the way... but the key is finding a store that is fair and honest... do you want to question the price or the workmanship... what gaurantee do you have that if someone from the forum strips the plugs out on your block that they will replace or repair it??? not much I am sure... Nothing against any of the knowledgable people here... But people piss and moan about paying for services but they buy a big mac for $3 that has a 400% markup or they go to the OUtback and pay $30 for a steak but you can buy the steak for $4 at Cub?!!? get the point.. you pay for reassurance, service and knowledge and the fact you dont have the time to do it yourself... Do y ou go to the dentist and expect to get your teeth cleaned and inspected and walk out free... no.. most people have rotten teeth cause they are tightwads... But the same people if they have to work an hour extra at work expect to be paid... so why wouldnt you pay for someone to work on your car if it is a fair rate..?? just my 2 cents worth from a Automotive Repair Store owner... but hey if you havent gotten it done yet.. let us know and we can do you a good deal at my store.. Club Discount 10% of total ticket...
You know what. U are completely right Nat. The only point I would like to point out that I really agree on is HONESTY, how can u truly trust a shop or a person to do the job rit for u...I guss the only soluation for somthing like this is basically to do it yourself.. M.
