So I'm quite new to the subaru world but not to turbos and understand enough to be dangerous. I've read with something as simple as a cai you should get a tune. I don't plan on doing anything for quite some time, but I do want the nameless axle back exhaust just for the awesome sound. Given its just an axle back and shouldn't affect a/f's much if at all. Do I really need a tune for the nameless?

that said you may enjoy the driveability and power increase of a reflash on stock(ish) hardware.

I've been trying to get a few things wrapped up on my car, before having a tune done. Its a stock 06 wrx. I have a question, if I get the tune or "reflash", will the reflash disappear if I disconnect the battery?

if your looking to do minor mods and need a tune just get a cobb flash tuner, for more extensive builds you will need to have a tuner tune it

I have to disagree with this. For the price of the Accessport with an off the shelf map that's not specific to one vehicle, you can get multiple Opensource tunes from reputable tuners that are local and can dial in your car. Nuke tuned my car and I couldn't be more happy with the tune...he's also helped out with a lot of my questions post-tune. Good luck finding that with an Accessport.

well obvious but remember this guy wants to go super cheap on his ride average tune is gonna run you more than the cobb will

i guess it does depend tho on how long it take to tune... so maybe you can get a tuner to do one cheap

    Maybe a dyno tune...but a basic road tune shouldn't. Just my $0.02.

Read the first quoted post again. For the price of an Accessport you can get multiple open source tunes. I can guarantee that any of the local tuners are going to be cheaper than an Accessport and will be able to offer a tune specific to that car and can offer service after the fact as well as offering a better product than an off the shelf map. Even a dyno tune is going to be cheaper than an Accessport.

Did you miss the part about it only being a catback? Last I checked, you don't need to trailer a car in for one of those. And even if he does have to stay in a hotel, for the cost of a road/dyno tune he can stay in a pretty decent one and still come out ahead on having to pay for an Accessport. He also lives in Robbinsdale, which I was able to figure out by reading his profile.

You're just reaching here...can't we just all agree that the Opensource tune is better here. You don't need to conjure up some scenario to prove yourself right.

Yes, but you've managed to contradict yourself. If he wants to stay cheap, then an Opensource tune is the way to go, and it's a better tune to boot. If he wants to go all out, an Opensource tune is still cheaper and is still a better tuning option.

Why not PM Nuke and ask him how much he would charge you to spend 3 hours tuning your car that way we don't have to have this uncomfortable public discussion and you can know how much it'll cost you to have done. just don't wast peoples time if you are not at all serious about having any work done...

    More than you can afford.

What I've paid for tunes isn't relevant here, but I am sure you could ask any of our highly capable tuners on the board what they would charge for a Stage 1 re flash on a lightly modified car (ie the OP's car) and it would be much less than an Accessport with a stay at the local Holiday Inn Express thrown in.

Pro tune. You can still use the accessport. Its not just an ots map flashing device.

But he doesn't care about the facts. He like to share with us his own version of the uneducated truths he knows about.

I suggests he buys a chip on Ebay and calls it a day.

Mmmk yeah I know I'll need a tune at some point and that's far down the road. I was just wondering if subi's were that sensitive to minor changes. The nameless exhaust is purely for sound. This is my DD and family car with some fun so heavy modding will never happen for me. Thanks for all the info though

You won't need a tune with just a axleback or catback, but a "Stage 1" tune really wakes the car up. I'd highly recommend getting it done. I was at "Stage 1" for a few years before I threw a full exhaust on my car and went "Stage 2".

The stock tune isn't very good, so I would recommend a Stage 1 tune even if you don't change anything.

The axle back exhaust won't really make it any worse, but it's not going to make it better either.

    Haha. This doesn't always last...

I can get a Stage 5 tune for my car.

holy bejebezus there's a lot of bitching going on in this thread and the OP hasn't even been involved! :frantic:

anyway, I digress. Here are the cliff notes:

Want a cheap, customized (better) tune: get an open source road tune from Nuke or another reputable tuner.
Want the flexibility to change between different maps, pull codes, data log, see engine metrics, etc: Go buy an AccessPort and have Nuke or any other reputable tuner tune it.

Nuke has tuned both of my cars, and I'm very pleased. Great tuner to work with!
