I've been shopping around for future mods and when it comes to the turbo I am lost! I found this thread: http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21911&highlight=Turbo and thought it was very useful. I'll be swapping my NA 2.5 for an ej20 hopefully sooner than later and I want a turbo that spools quick, for the low to mid rpms......I am not building this car for top end. I want to get some of your experienced opinions on which would work the best for me. As of now I am considering the VF39 or the VF34. Are there any others i should be thinking about?

Also, I am alittle worried about my 01' rs tranny. Is this thing going to hold up against the added horses i'll be throwing at it??

    Your advice is much needed

Are you going for a USDM or JDM ej20 swap? The RS tranny won't hold out if you don't drive aggresively. I've gone through 3 RS transmissions and I think Fuji and Matt(Impresive) has gone through a few with their swaps.

New Transmission RECOMMENDED. It'll hold as long as you never open throttle. Fuji only did a few pulls to get a base line dyno on his 16G and his transmission did not sound pretty. 6-Speed SWAP!

I would not go as far as to say you cant open the throttle, just dont bash gears like youre in a fwd car and you will be fine, although my trans didnt even make it to 10k after my 22t, I drove it hard and suprisingly it took a good beating until I ran it low on trans fluid from having no speedo cable in.....

anyways, I wouldnt worry about getting a wrx trans or anything like that, just uncle scottys coctail your trans and save for a 6 speed, its the only choice you have.

Thanks for the input fellas. I'll start saving for a new tranny, and hopefully i'll have enough cash by the time this one goes out. I'm pretty much decided on a 16g aswell.

    I like my EVO3-16G...... it's FAST.
Get a tranny first. This way you won't have to worry about it in the long run like me......broken trranny now and the car sits helplessly with an impressive swap..

Do you know what kind of numbers you ended up with on your setup? I am signed up to get tuned FINALLY with Jorge next weekend. I was pushing around 270 whp when I got tuned at DB last spring. As long as my car is put together well, it will be interesting to see what Jorge does with it.

I think you know, but I am also rocking the EVO III 16g. Good stuff my man.

I heard dude, that really sucks! Can a wrx 5speed hold up?? I'd like to go that route, 6 gears is 1 too many, IMO.

a WRX tranny can hold it, just don't drive like an asshat and everything should be fine.

It all depends on how you drive it. An RS tranny could last quite a few years with a WRX swap, but it definitely won't hold forever. I got 3 years out of my L tranny after I broke the first one. The second one now has 150K miles on it and is still holding. I have a spare ready to go in WHEN this one breaks.

Well if you are running pump gas you'll probably only hit 200whp since he'll want to run like 10psi. :p
