So my wife was saying she was getting the gas smell again. Yay... Tore out the turbo inlet pipe it seems that one of my hose clamps was in the wrong spot needed to be moved down. Her car has always seemed "slugish"figured it was because it is a 4eat. While I was in there I stuck my finger in the turbo and it seems to spin o.k. but it's been A LONG time since I've had a turbo in my hand. How freely should a turbo spin. I mean if you give it a flick with your finger can you normally get 5-10 revs out it it before it stops?? Anyone want to stop by and give me their opinion? This car is a flood salvage, I am wondering if something has destroyed the bearing surface.

One more bit. My wife doesn't drive the car hard. However the other day I took it to the hardware store. when I left I got on it pretty good. It didn't seem to go then all the sudden took off like someone lit a fire under its ass. I looked up and could see a puff of black smoke? I know that the o2 sensor is new. Anyone got any ideas??

Yeah I'm pretty much just rambling looking for a clue. Thanks is advance.

The spin seems normal. Any shaft play? A tiny bit is normal, but not more that say 1mm or so.

The smoke was probably the gas that was dumped into the engine when you floored it. Was it boost lag you were feeling? Subaru ECU's "adapt" to peoples driving style, right? Perhaps you flooring it was something it was not "used to"?

On the newer fly-by-wire ECUs I know they adapt. My wife's WRX is an 04. Guess I forgot to mention that. Sorry.
I should also say I used to own a 02 WRX, I know down low they are a bit sluggish, until you get it going. But this thing just seems really slow. I can hear the turbo through the CAI and it sounds health. There is just something else that I can't put my finger on.

Well it must not be running that bad wife still gets 27+ mpg. I kind of figured it was slow to begin with.
