So, I've been looking at pictures of the standard muffler that TurboXs labels as their own...but I seem to be seeing that they are actually just magnaflow mufflers. But when I look at them at vendor websites, they aren't magnaflows...so is this something they recently changed or what? Mainly, I dont like the look of the magnaflow which just had a tip welded on a smaller tip...know what I mean?
What other companies make just axelbacks? The only ones I know of are: -stromung -prodrive -scoobysport (do they still make it?) -Turboxs
The only thing that sucks about the maddad is that it tapers to 2.5" through the muffler. It's not a straight 3 inch like the txs stealth.
???. The Turboxs stealthback (4" DP, 3" midpipe) tapers to 2.5" at the axleback/midpipe flange. Additionally, you can get a 3" Whisper (although I think you have to buy the full catback).
most standard style mufflers do i think...but its not like its THAT much more of a restriction where its gonna do anything unless you're making huge power
get a magnaflow muffler right from their site.. all their tips are 3in through on the 3in mufflers.. thats how I made all my cat-backs for people
Wow, I didn't know that the txs tapers to 2.5 too. What the?! I don't get that...why??? I thought even the catback whisper tapers to 2.5. Hmm..I'll have to double check on that.
I have a turboxs stealthback on my car and it does NOT taper to 2.5" It's 3" all the way until it bolts to up to the 2.5" axle back.
Well, I have a txs tbe and it DOES taper to 2.5 in before the axle back. It is a matter of how old the system is. Besides, unless you are running 400+whp, the difference between a 2.5 inch axle back and a 3" is going to be next to nothing. If it is a good flowing muffler you will not notice it at all. Russ
Ok, let me clear this up. v1 TXS stealthbacks (like what I have) taper from 3" to 2.5" at the midpipe. They also fit better and don't hang down as low. v2 TXS stealthbacks are 3" all through the midpipe but have extra holes to accomodate either a 2.5" or 3" axelback. The downpipe on these also hang down much more and also have an extra o2 bung for a wideband.
Well I have the stock axle back, sorry I didn't clarify that. But I must have the version 2 since mine does not taper at the mid-pipe at all. And it does seem to hang quite low, but not low enough to really worry me.
Does anyone have the new version of the TURBOXS Stealthback? I'm looking to get one to mate up to my PRODRIVE Axleback. The cat looks alot better than the old one folks were having trouble with. THOUGHTS??? http://www.oakos.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=TXSSBE
What was wrong with the old cat? I've got one and haven't had any problems at all... Anyway, a race pipe is only around $100, and I bet you could find tons used. If you're on a budget, my suggestion is you just surf NASIOC. There are tons of used exhausts on there daily.
I need the down pipe and mid pipe and would like it to butt up to my Prodrive. What is your exhaust Bullwinkle? PM Me.. I'm looking for a catted solution that leverages my current exhaust that is not loud and will work with a cobb AP stage 2 map.
I ran a TXS Stealthback with a Prodrive axleback on my wagon. Good sound, quiet and no drone while cruising.
Thanks for the input! The new design looks like it could be a bit louder with the design of the cat. Do you know if the new version is tapered 2.5 at the midpipe still or different mate up at the end for 2.5 exhausts?
Yes, the new version where the midpipe meets the axle back portion. I'll be looking for a used one coming this summer after I recover from buying wheels and tires
Not likely, I just dropped most of my alloted modding cash on wheels and tires. Next few things on my list are suspension too. Oh well, I can deal with stage 1 power...I was amazed the first week I had it! It's amazing how quickly you get used to it
Stage 2 should be fun! What wheels did you get? I have to get suspension done as well (sway bars for sure).
Awesome! I'm glad you love it! I have a Prodrive now which is pretty throaty. I hope to have the parts soon. I'll be looking for SCUBA Steve soon.
The stealthback is now installed. SCUBA Steve (Dave) installed it today. He did a great job It sounds great! No drone on the HWY or in town. It has a nice even tone and is quiet for eliminating the resonator and all those cats. A good alternative for those looking for performance and not alot of noise. I have to tell you, my tires made a heck of alot more noise it seems!
