Is there much difference in getting a aftermarket uppipe or a STI uppipe. I found a STI up fs for $75. What do u guys think and if i did that do i need to get a CEL fix? Also ive been tryin to do my research but is a full install of Uppipe and TBE extremely difficult or should I be able to get it done. Im just not use to have no space in the engine bay. PS> with cattless there is more likely to be boost creep, right... I guess can someone explain this too me.?.?.?
The dyno says there is no decernable difference in any up-pipe. check nasioc's faq under the noob section, unibombers manifesto in nasioc. I think any reasonably decen mechanic can do the install, having a good set of tools and the correct tools should make it much easier, plenty of how to's out there. Depending on the year of your car, you probably want to have engine management before you do this mod, especially if you have an 04+ wrx. accessport is probably the top choice for most people. Then you shouldn' have to worry about cel fixes, maybe the rear 02 if you go completely catless.
Yah, I already have AP so thats taken care of. Im just figured that while im doin a TBE, it would be the easiest time to do an uppipe. Just happened that I found an STI. BTW is 75 expensive for it?
The aftermarket up-pipe minus the cat allows the turbo to come on about 500 RPM lower and build boost sooner. I haven't seen a HP boost, but it does eliminate the lag a bunch. And since you have to drop the exhaust to install the UP, if you want to install the UP, now is the best time to do it.
an uppipe and downpipe smooth out the power band a lot. with just and up/dp and mbc i was able to stay even with stock evo's from a roll in my wrx.
if not already mentioned STi has up-pipe has no fitment issues....and yes, as mentioned...do both up/down at the same time. save you the hassle of taking the DP out again oh, and I've been running both up/dp with AP and no boost creep issues.
Boost creep is more common on STi's and not the WRX's. If you have your AP already, it shouldn't be a problem.
What about if you dont have a AP? I also have a 05 WRX. Is it hard to do the CEL fix or how do you do that I have no clue? Also does anyone have the ERZ UP/Down pipe? IF so what do you think? I have read alot of good stuff about them and the price is right! I just wanna hear somthing besides the wind!
The mechanical cel fix is just a matter of buying a resistor (2.2k ohm, iirc) and pluging it into the harnes on the car where the egt probe comes in. The cel fix for the rear 02 sensor is as easy as using 2 spark plug anti-foulers. Russ
