So i just installed aim6 last night. huge disaster. messes up internet connectivity and media files. anyone heard anything else about this?
Easy solution, use Pidgin, http://www.pidgin.im I've been using it (and it's Mac OSX couterpart, Adium) for months, and absolutely love it. Logs onto AIM, MSN, GTalk simultaneously and works great. Very non-intrusive with zero advertising.
I use Pidgin in Ubuntu and Miranda IM in windows. Both work good, but Pidgin feel like a much more polished app.
I will have to look into pidgin. the sad thing is i actually like how aim6 looks. just i cant use any of my music or media files with it.
Holy Hannah thank you for posting this. Ive had so many problems with aim on my mac and i just installed adium and its way better. Big Ol' +1!
 + 1 for pidgin. It works really well. and a big thumbs down to aim of any kind. AOL has been know to trash all network settrings
If any of you don't like using 3rd party software for aim, I kept a copy of aim 4.7 (before the software went controlling style). If you want I can upload it somewhere.
This site is useful for these kinds of things - lots of versions of AIM here. http://www.oldversion.com/
I have absolutely no idea what you guys are talking about I just turn on the computer and type in websites.
I'm not impressed with ubuntu at all. Had it installed and took it off a few days later. It's a nice desktop distro, but thats about it. I'm sorry but a distro that doesn't even have xinetd installed by default fails in my book instantly. I could not get SWAT up and running for the life of me, then found out xinetd nor even inetd was installed...who would've thought Fedora core 8 ftw!
