my buddy has a mark 4 (i think) jetta its a late 90s. anywho his ABS has gone nutso. when you hit the brakes (hard or soft) over 10mph (excluding reverse) the abd will freak out. and then the abs will freak out when you turn and slow down. it throughs a CEL and the ABS light. read the code says the Front left brake spped senspr s bad. but both fronts were just replaced w/ oem parts. cleared the lights. problem got worse. front brakes are relatively new, has new rubber on motegi rims. any ideas? he needs to fix it so he can sell and buy a Wrx.
I guess at this point I would not know where to look next if the sensor's were replaced. Maybe unplug the connectors for the speed sensor and make sure there is no corotion that is preventing a good connection. If you get nothing there I would pull the ABS fuses just so it is safe to drive.
A problem like this pops up on A4's. I believe it was the sensors. Let me check and I will get back to you. Motegi rims on a Jetta?! WTF?!

kloss's right? how long has he had the motegi's? I don't think I've seen them and it's a MK3, '98 I think
Was this the problem before replacing the sensors? If not, recheck the work that was done. What exactly happens when turning? Sounds like a loose sensor.
it was hapenign for a while before he changfed the sensors. however it did not go away when he changed them.
Early Audi/VW ABS stuff is not that great, they are oversensitive even when working correctly. Anyway, if you just wanna sell the car, just pull the fuse for the ABS and open up the cluster and pull the bulb behind the CEL. } What's probably happening is the ABS sensors are dirty.
