Silver03 had one. I had a chance to drive it a few times on the highway and in the city.

Overall- Nice, comfortable ride, quick for a volvo, but slower than a stage 2 wrx proabaly due to weight.

Dash was cheap looking and too simple for a volvo.

expensive to maintain, even more expensive to upgrade.

heck no, but you should ask Silver03 (Rick), he bought an LGT after he traded in the volvo and could give you a better opinion.

Volvo- nice sporty sedan, but much more expensive. Sarah was tempted to buy it from him when he was trading it in, but the maintenance alone would've killed us when outside of regular warranty...and an aftermarket warranty was really expensive. Plus his windshield kept cracking pretty bad. Don't get me wrong, it's a great car, but I personally think it's too expensive for what it actually is.

they are same price that the lgt. More power too. I bet it is more comfortable too? What would be expensive about it? I mean i can do plugs, oil, filter and most of the other little stuff. With a car like that the only thing you need is exhaust and a tune.

well equipped S60R will run you around 42K

a well equipped LGT will run you around 34.

Add 8K to a LGT and you have a car that can walk circles around a S60R

Volvo Backseats are tiny. I looked seriously at purchasing an S60R or V70R and after discovering the backseats were the same size as my Impreza Wagon I decided against it.

Those quoting maintenance costs are absolutely right. Smaller production numbers plus a premium marquee means expensive parts.

Tuning and aftermarket exists for these platforms but there are a LOT fewer Volvo enthusiasts than for virtually any other car company so you've got a greatly reduced supply for both selection of aftermarket parts and aftermarket tuning options.

If you are looking for a good, solid, nice-looking performance sedan, then it could be your bag. If you're looking for a new project to turn into a sleeper monster you can do it... with enough time and money.

Because it's turbocharged, sporty, and not known to be reliable beyond the warranty period. It doesn't have the rock-solid reliability of previous Turbo Volvos (Turbo Brick, anyone?) nor the reputation for being a tuner-car.

It's no Audi S4. Oh wait, the turbocharged S4 values are dropping like rocks, too.

It is just a thought. I am not planning on getting one any time soon. But my next car will definetly be awd, turbo and comfortable but as sporty as it gets. And i realized that i am no tuner and every time i put something on my car makes it brake or run worse than before. With a new car would would maximum get new rims, a boost gauge and exhaust.

Honestly, I would go with an S4 before I'd go with the Volvo. Sure, it's smaller but finding parts and getting maintenance done is easier than with the Volvo. Both are expensive to work on so that differential gets pretty much cancelled out.

Like I said, the mid-size Volvo S60R has little backseat room. The 'compact' S4 will have just as much interior room and the fit and finish on the Audi is better than the Volvo.

Not the last generation Twin Turbo.

The V8's are expensive because they are reliable, fast, and hot.

Oh, you can also find an 04 or 05 for less than $30k in Minneapolis at a dealer (this means there is haggle room)

yeah, true. But i think my next car should be new anyway. So volvo is just kind of an idea. Its cool looking and looks like its got a ton of power. But the interior sucks, and i love subbies anyway. I could get an 08 lgt limited for 26500.

To get me to buy a new car would require the car to go A2M and give road head.

    Or be the new STi.

Otherwise I don't see myself buying a new car anytime in the next decade. You can get so much more car for your money by buying a 2-year old car.

That's a me thing. We bought my wife's 2002 Audi in 2004 with less than 20k on the clock.

They went new for $42k. We paid $27k after Tax, title, and license.

I bought my $80k+ M5 for about the same as I paid for my new-in-2002 WRX Wagon.

Great bang for the buck because the values drop so quickly.

But to get more power, it's pretty limited. But for the performance/luxury, it is a nice mix, and I think you would like it.

Edit: If you're going new, the "R" signification is getting eliminated (I think this year). The R's on the lots right now are the last of them. I've read about places where they're being discounted around 6-8k.

Very different. Noone uses Subaru's symmetrical AWD. They're usually some sort of transfer case system.

I dunno what you guys are on about, I have driven a couple of these and they're way more capable than people are assuming they are. I once watched one driven by a decent driver absolutely slaughter 3 STIs, 2 Evos and a every single WRX at an autocross test event and all it has was stock tires a chip.

And it had 5 people in it at the time.

Its an incredibly capable car, and they're coming down in price and they're about a hundred times nicer than what subaru makes. I'd say this is the most slept on car out there pretty much.

To wall of tvs and fondune: Yes and Yes. Both have a t-case that is attached to a FWD system. This makes the AWD system more FWD biased but still gets power to the back wheels. It also makes for GREAT snow cars. I will choose my wife's Audi over my Legacy any time we're taking the family out in the winter.

For fun, however, The Legacy wins, hands down.

In the world of AWD this is the norm. Subaru is a bit weird because they decided in the 90's to ONLY do AWD and sucked up the greater expense of their system by mass-producing it and putting it in EVERYTHING they build.

Ditto on that. The S60R is pretty hot.

Did Volvo ever release the S40R here?

No S40 R here, In fact no more S60 R either. When I had mine...it was a terrific sleeper. No one knew what it was capable of. The car came from the factory on 18"s, Brembos, adj suspension, awd and an overstated 300hp...plus I had the 6 speed MT. The seats were sex...no other way to put it. They were more comfortable than any other seat my butt has ever been in. The dash was kinda cool, lit up blue, kind of a jeweled look. But want to add a downpipe...pony up $1500. Want an ECU upgrade, theres $1100. With a body kit and a whole lot o cash you could have one amazing vehicle. Thats my story and I'm stickin to it;)

^thats the thing i would probably be happy with it being stock. Just get a cat back, if not brand name, i would just get one made by Nathan. It would anyway be better than any brand name one.

Volvos have always had really comfortable seats.

I remember some guy talking about test driving a S4, and he said compared to the Volvo (I think he also had an S60R), the S4 seats are stone.

It's overpriced. But that is probably one of the worse ones I've seen.

As to the rims, most of the Volvo guys really like the Pegasus rims. They are the thick 5 spokes w/ the "R" insignia.

I would hceck out Swedespeed.com and look at the forsale section. They are the top Volvo forum for the newer cars.

My buddy has one...and it's a POS. Nearly lemon lawed because of AWD issues. But, he is hard on cars, so that could be part of it. They are faster than you might think...faster than I thought they would be anyway. And surprisingly can hold their own on a track. I'd go with an lgt personally, if that's your other option.
