My wife is leasing an '05 Jetta 2.0 4cyl. with 37,000mi. We brought it to the local VW dealership today because it has been getting worse and worse gas mileage over the last couple months.

It is down to the 14-18 mpg range (window sticker lists 24 and 30). Not to my surprise, the wife was told that they went through all of their tests and that nothing was wrong...maybe just the weather

So, I plan on calling them in the morning maybe, but for sure I wanna call the place in GB that she originallly leased at to say, "hey, what's the deal, we can't afford to put gas in this thing, take it back so I can get a LGT!"

This is worse gas mileage than I get in my car with 3x tha powaz, anybody ever heard of such an issue? Any advice?

    Thanks
    -Matt

I would lean towards weather and winter gas.

yup...and the fuel filter(usually doesn't make that big of a difference this soon but its supposed to be done every 30k anyways) possibly air filter if full of crap, or something i have no idea about...i hate working on vw's everything is way too complicated

Its possible the coolant temp sensor is out of range or like curly said the maf can be off. VW maf sensors are like filters and need to be changed regularly. Just a thought.

Fuel filter and transmission services are not recommended by VW or Audi. I actually have never put a fuel filter in for maintenance.

So what should I say to these people when I call? I don't understand why we should be expected to deal with only getting 200 mi out of a tank of gas. Of course they don't want to fix anything, cuz that would cost them money. For the record, she got this car before I met her.

Twas leased before I met her, it has already been determined that we will not ever lease anything or have a VW/Audi again.

Aug. 31st and about $2500. The best thing I did was I spent about 6 weeks going to as many dealers as possible. I got the numbers from all of them and I financed through my credit union. They had WAY better rates than the stealership! The best part was I pretented to be all about finacing with them all the way til the end and then I was like oh, yeah and you'll be getting a check from my bank. I don't know if this actually got me a lower selling price or not, I did feel better though. When I was a kid I financed through dealers and got hosed. The only thing is most Credit unions want you to be in good standing with all your creditors. (ie.. no past due bills) BTW I saw an interesting report they did on CNN about the new Russia. It was fascinating. Sorry for jacking this thread

yeah man, I love my car. I'm all about the whole sleeper thing too. w00t. have you seen bikerboy's car? it's pretty dope. That's what I'm talkin' about. I live in the 'burbs and five-0 has nothing better to do than chase "hooligans" and give them B.S. tickets for stuff. (I have firsthand knowledge of this)

It is not the weather and fuel. I am averaging 31 on my 07 with a 2.0t motor. If you took it to Schmel's, take it somewhere else. They screwed up my last car so bad they had to get me a new one.

Wasn't Schmel's, it was Luther in SLP. I talked to a guy at the Green Bay VW dealer and he seems to think that the injectors need to be cleaned, which is a part of the VW maintainence schedule @ 40K mi, she is at 37K...

I have never heard of doing such a thing that early, or ever. Do I just not pay attention? :ugh:

Winter blend of gas will drop your MPG down 1 or 2 but not by half. Sounds like other issues at work. Sounds like maybe a basic tune up is in order.

as i said, my money would be on an O2 sensor or MAF, seems to be most typical from all the VWers i know or have worked on

I have a wise friend outside the forum that agrees with you on this... I am just amazed that VW doesn't, or doesn't wanna fix it. Wouldn't this make it throw a CEL though?

VW (and luther in particular is pathetic) i bought my OBS from them, TOLD them the O2 sensors were bad, the "replaced" the front and "cleaned" the rear. VW techs tend to be...um, idiots. not to mention they make working on them a complete PITA, you screw up the TPS or anything and you will need a Vagcom to get back and re-enable the car. like i said, MAF or O2 sensor(probably the front Wideband), i would take out and check the MAF for oil blow by as it seemed to me to be way to common...clean it out or replace it and see what happens.
