I am wondering if anyone on this board would be willing to help wrench on cars for those less fortunate one Saturday morning (8am-noon) per month. We will see anywhere between 7-12 cars that morning. My church (www.lwcc.org) has an outreach called Carcare where we work on vehicles who's owners are primarily senior citizens and single moms. The work includes oil changes, vehicle inspections, brake work, doughnut eating, electrical troubleshooting, tire work, tune ups, coffee drinking, miscellaneous suspension work, etc. Most vehicles are very high mileage and need to be fixed on a budget. We cannot get into much more than that due to time constraints. We meet at a real shop (with lifts) in Brooklyn Center typically the third Saturday morning of every month. Dave (Scuba Steve) has been helping out faithfully for years. The shop is very generous but we do have to provide our own hand tools. If you are interested in learning more-either ask your questions in the thread or pm me. Thanks Rick
This has been a great time and I've always left Car Care with a smile knowing I've helped someone that is less fortunate than me. One thing I'd like to point out. You don't have to be a mecahnical guru to help out. Many of the cars that come in for service only need simple items taken care of....like oil changes. Also, there's always someone there to help you out if you run into a question while working on a car. It's a great group of guys doing this and I've been honored to be apart of the team!
there may be some rare opertunites i could help with this but for the most part i cant really being im 3hrs north of msp
I'd be intrested as well. However I've been working 60+ hours at work and part of that is Saturday mornings, when things calm down I'll shoot you a PM...
The weekends right now are pretty crazy but I'm assuming this is a year-round deal? Also, would guys need to bring their own tools / lights / anything? I am very interested and would like to help but it will likely have to be after the Holicraze.
This is a year round deal and has been for roughly the past 8 or 9 years...cant remember. It is bring your own hand tools (mark them)...we have zero problems with theft of any sort, but they do kinda begin to all look alike. This saturday is game on at 8. Anyone wanting further information, lets talk beforehand. thanks for all the interest!
I am leaving for Ohio for the holidays this week but i would definitely be interested in helping when i get back
Silver03 - you mind posting, or PM, the shop and what the next date is. Sounds like a good thing. Wish i would have seen this post earlier. -Doug
I did this a couple times for a local church. It's definately a really cool thing to do. And if you like coffee like I do, they usually keep you well stocked.
Glad I could help! I probably won't be able to make the next one in January, but maybe the one after. Nice to see some folks using their time and efforts to help others in need. ~Dan
Carcare coming up on next Saturday 1/16. I will have a better idea of our schedule for it mid week. If interested, let me know.
