Was checking my fluids today and saw the over flow full, up to the top and some spilled out. Took some coolant out and drove it, same thing, way over full and to the top again. Drives fine at normal operating temp, but at random times on the freeway or in town it will climb up to 3/4 or less and slowly back down to normal. Also the bottom hose is cold while the top is hot. The bottom hose was hot but now it's cold after driving it. No leaks, just random overheating and a cold bottom hose Just put in a new radiator, thermostat, hoses and coolant in September, so it only leaves the water pump left 05 lgt, 122k
Could be but Cold lower hose because of headgasket? Still blows hot air. No white smoke, no milky oil or coolant, blows hot air still, doesn't use any coolant. Drive fine with no loss in power just it will randomly climb up for a few secs and come back down for a while, then will do it again after a few minutes of driving.
Was hoping it was just air but Just did it now and no luck. The whole time, coolant wasn't flowing, it just sat there for the whole 15 minutes. Top hose was hot, but bottom hose cold. Guessing water pump is shot. A few days ago, there was whine coming from the front and got louder the faster I went and would stop when i left off and now this.
If the water pump was "shot" it would overheat fairly quickly and not drop down at all. It would also be making some horrible noises from the timing cover as the belt slips on the pulley or a separated impeller is banging around in the housing. It sounds to me like an air bubble, bad t-stat, or the beginning of a head gasket leak.
My first thought is the thermostat, and ^^ what Deride said - possible that it's installed upside down?
Thanks guys, just burped it and drove it for a couple hours with no issues or overheating. Will burp it one more time tonight and hope that was all it was but for now its running fine
Pressure tested it and the upper hose was loose, probably how air got in. Tighten the clamp down and has been driving fine since
