ok so my gas tank cracked open when i ran over a rock in a gravel parking lot. its cracked about 6 inches and bent up a little bit, i could probably bend it back down so thats its even.. is it possible to seal it so i could at least drive it back to my house or somewhere to get it fixed? i have an 05 RS what other year tanks will fit on my car, also does anyone know of a junk yard that has parts that would fit my car?

Gheyness! Did the crack cause any fuel to spill out? If so, it's gotta be towed.

I'm guessing any Impreza/Forester gas tank will fit. 15.9 gallon tanks.

did you crack your tank or did you crack the plastic cover that covers it?...you didnt say if gas spilled out if its just the cover ide keep driving it till you have money to fix it. a gas tank sealer may work, but you are gonna hafta use alot of it

Can't you claim it as a defect and have it repaired under warranty? If I just had a rock kick up and take out my gas tank I damn well would take the thing back to the dealership. Now if you were doing something you weren't supposed to be doing with it then you're kinda SOL, but they can't possibly say driving on gravel or even rocky roads will cause such catastrophic damage. That seems like it would be a dangerous defect.

A scheduled tow is MUCH cheaper than getting towed by the city or after an accident.

Getting towed by city or from a private business because of bad parking: $200+

Calling for a tow that is not on a freeway: ~$50

Not dying in a fireball or having a subaru fall on you: Dope!

Also, for a replacement tank, email all those "parting out WRX" guys on nasioc and get one cheap. Cause generally no one needs a gas tank from a 2 year old car.

that sucks man. remeber that you dont tow a suby you have to flat bed it.

also incase you decide to "fix" the tank by welding. no matter how much you clean it out with water/cleaners there will still be gass fumes in there. (heard a very funny story bout people trying to fix a gas tank w/ that alum-o-lloy stuff)
