welding turbo?

I had the bracket that holds the wastegate acuator crack off, can this be welded? I wasnt sure if its cast or not.

this is my turbo, from the pic it looks to be welded on. So what kind of welder would be needed to weld this.

its not broken where the weldes are in the pic, its broken next to the round thingy or actuator View attachment 7937

 

had mine welded with a tig welder, it's been a few months and it's holding just fine.

Rich, I weld cast alum on a daily basis, it it is cast Iron get a new one. Most welders will turn away cast alum, but if you know the right guy he can do it. You will need to take the turbo off the car though to get it done nice. I did all the welding on 95lwrx's white car we made a special snout that I welded right to the turbo housing wich was cast alum. If you are making a trip to brainerd let me know and I can do it. If not call a few welders where you are. Call a prop shop first we are the guys that can do cast like it is nothin.

 

yeah the actuator was welded to the cold side. The cold side is most likely cast aluminum. The hot side is cast iron.

 

I have a buddy who can do the cast aluminum no problem, he can do the cast iron too if needed. He does side jobs all the time. Pm if you want to get in touch with him.

I would but this turbo is on my snowmobile, I dont want to start messing with it.

We have a prop shop close by, Im going to see if they can weld it.

Im going with a bigger turbo in the spring. Right now I just want it fixed so I can get some races in.

 

If the bracket broke, it should be fixable with a welder. I had to cut mine apart and reweld it to work, and was fine. Untill I blew the diaphram in the actuator out...
