I think I'll be fine for a while, but... I should understand I'm on bo:eek3:rrowed time.

what gears would you recomend? STi swap? PPG? others?????

RA gears? are they any better than what I've got?

Are the gears still weak on the newer ones. I would think Subaru learned a lesson by now. Putz will find out for us I guess.
Good numbers by the way. I ran my car there and it wasn't much of a difference. 502 on the mustang and 544 on their dynojet.

I've seen 06wrxs pop 3rd gear on 20g's and even stock turbos. I've also seen some survive 20g's/fpgreens with plenty of drag passes. I'm sure if you don't shock load the piss out of it and let the clutch take any abuse, it should hold up for a while (depending on how you use it). Definitely not bullet-proof, but not as bad as earlier wrx trannys.

My understanding is the 06 wrx gears are already RA width, so you'd pretty much be moving linearly. Also, the dual coned synchros in 1st are really nice for daily driving (although that doesn't speak to strength at all).

If you are looking to upgrade, I'd say ppg 5-speed or 07 STI 6-speed. MFactory kinda fell off in the Subaru world... dunno what's new with them. Really depends on your needs and how you'll use it. Also, you might want to consider whether you may want to upgrade the diffs at some point.

Personally, I loved the 5-speed ratios, but am more than happy with the 07 6-speed... I still can't stand driving an 04-06 STi 6-speed tho. Nice power numbers btw!

ronnie, I think the gears are still weak in the newer wrx 06-07, and I' trying to find the most cost effective replacments. Looks like the KAAZ gears are the least expensive for gears rated for over 400awhp...

I hear the RA gears are not much better than the stock gears??????

    Don't get RA gears.

If you bust yours, I would recommend an '07 STI swap, or the cheaper option, the MFactory gears (read here).

Did they every figure out 5th gear? I know for their beta run it was 1-5, then for the release I thought it was 1-4 and the shift into 5th was kinda clumsy for the 06.

Also, no on the KAAZ gears.
Very close ratios (no good for drag or track days... top out 5th at 120-135mph iirc) and pretty expensive. They'd probably be great for a purpose built auto-x or short circuit car tho.

Pretty sure most people are sticking with the stock 5th. The drop from 4th to 5th is pretty large when doing this, but most people seem to like the ratios quite a bit.

Personally, I wouldn't get their 5th, as having the stock gearing is much better for highway driving.
