I imagine that there are times now and then, where even the most die hard of us Subaru lovers don't think for just a second about the great rhyme in the movie "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" that goes...Match in the gas tank, BOOM BOOM! Well, that was me yesterday. After a quick weekend road trip to Iowa City to see an old college buddy (and to visit the new Flav's Fried Chicken Restaurant in Clinton, IA- owned by Flava Flav) I stopped on the way out of town to fill up and decided to check the oil and make sure everything was still as beautiful as I last saw. What I opened the hood to was a great surprise... Bright, green, radiator fluid all over. The drop in my stomach was instant, so I called my best bud, who is also a mechanic, and I couldn't find anything visible... so I cleaned it up, topped it off and watched my gauges like a hawk the rest of the ride home. Yesterday, (Monday) I went right after work to the shop he works at, just to check everything out, and by this point, what started as a small almost invisible crack in my radiator had grown to about 4 1/2 inches. No longer did I have any coolant in the reservoir. I was extremely lucky that i had enough in there from the time I left the school I work at to get to his shop in New Brighton with out any overheating. So now, I have a new radiator, new brake pads (which also were in desperate need of replacement) and I figured, ah heck, why not get a new battery while I am at it? My 04 WRX STILLLLLL had the original battery in it. So just thought I'd share my experience with you all, and all though while looking up part prices, kept thinking about that match in the gas tank, I still love 'er, and hopefully will make a quick come back from the financial set back to continue getting some more fun stuff for the WRX! ps- sorry if this ended up in the wrong section of the forum...!
The food was not too bad! We went more for the fact the Flava Flav opened a restaurant, and in all places, Clinton IA...but the food was I'd say right up there with the competitors... the atmostphere however was a little different... it was an old Long John Silver's building which had just been painted (and not very well) and had a haze of chicken grease/smoke through out, but I guess that was part of the experience... haha
Went through crack in radiator last March in our 03 WRX. Took the opportunity to upgrade to a Mishimoto!
