    hey all,

i am debating selling my infinitys for somethign else. i have heard good things about boston acoustics, also i have looked into hifoncis atlas series. however i dont know of any stores around here that sell these subs. so does anyone know anythgin about them.
i am not decided on a 10" or 12" yet. but i want it at 2 ohms and able to handle 700W rms. also if it only took 1 cubic foot of air would be nice. any suggestions?

    thanks

I thought ultimite electronic (for a big chain store) had BA's. I don't know of anyone here anymore that sell HiFonics....

If you want the boom boom go with 1 12... Personaly if you have the hach back you should be fine with 1 10". Unless you have verygood venting for the amp I would still run it at 4 ohms, because most subs are 4 ohms and you would have to go with a dual voicecoil and run them in parrelle to get to 2 ohms anyways, and posible overheating problems. See so if you go with the 1 10", and it isn't enough you can parrelle in the second one, and drop to 2 ohms. Call it room for unnessisary expansion :p

It takes a little more for the sedan.... but not much more. I have 2 12" Audioban and that is WAY WAY WAY overkill. I have my 250.2 turned almost off and at times it is still too much.

I haven't been keeping up on who is making the good subs anymore, but Bostons should be ok. I was never big into HiFonics.

Post pics when you get done. I will probably post some when I get the chance to take them.

sub selection is all based on musical preference. If you wnt the thundering bass (rap, hip hop), I have some used subs for ya. We hooked them up to the wall outlet (not mine) for a couple of minutes and they didn't even cringle at that. I personally listen to alot more rock, so I like a tighter bass response, and I went with some infinities in my truck. Now that I sold that truck, I am in the process of starting all over again. Also, don't be concerned with wattage numbers, I know Noah listened to my truck and can tell ya that only 200 watts can get pretty **** loud. What amps are you running? Do you have amped speakers in the rest or the car? what head unit do you have? Do you have a crossover? How much space can you loose to a box? I can keep going, but that should be a good start. Remember to think about it twice, and buy once.;)

right now i have a RFX 9400 head unit, it outs abotu 80W per channel. i have stock speakers in teh doors, and MTX in teh back. i have a Hifonics BX1000D amplifier thats good for 1000Wx1ohm RMS, 700x1 @ 2ohms rms, and 350Wx1 @ 4ohms. currently i have 2 infinity refrence 1220s that have a 300rms @ 4 ohms, but i bridged them so its 2 ohms. they are getting 350W each now. i am listenign mostly to rock, and metal. i like the really tight bass response. what i really want the subs for is to feel the kick on the kick drums. currently i am picking up alot of bass guitar through my amp, and my car rumbles. right now my entire trunk is full due to the speaker boxes. so 1 of anythign would be much smaller than this.
one problem i have run into so far is that becuase the head unit is pushignthe components so hard, i dotn wanna take the volume above 10. it maxes out at 25. (OUCH)

Unfortunatley Ultimate Electronics quit carrying Boston. However, the sub most of us have in our cars is the Alpine Type R (and it's not just because we get the best deal on them, that would be rockford). It's a decent price (especially for mnsubaru members:D) and it sounds great for rock as well as rap. I've a single 10 dual 4 ohm in my wrx running about 600 watts and it sounds great. Another guy that works here has a single 12 in the trunk of his wrx and it just plays a little lower, not necessarily any louder. Feel free to stop by and check 'em out. I should be here 'till 5 today and most of the weekend.

You might want to fix the stock speakers in the door with a passive crossover, or just replace them right away because, 80 Watts a channel is as much as I am putting to mine with my alpine amp. Eventualy if you are anal about your sound you will replace those anyways, but adding the crossover and having them doing mid's and up will help you a lot. Unfortunaltly you don't have a gain control on your aftermarket for its internal amp, so you will have to deal with your confined range.... SOL, untill new speakers in the doors.

BigFnE sorry to hear that they got rid of the Bostons. I have not heard the Type R's. if you work there could you check out their Q perameters, or at least state out internal volume requirements.

BigFnE also has a point about surface area and wave size using simular power delivery.... but I am sure he could help hook you up.

If you don't mind loosing your spare tire you could have almost your whole trunck back too... I can't remember where the post was but I have seen some nice spare location ones, and Herger here had a nice looking fiber one.

Way beyond my skills with fiber. I like wood :p.
Just to throw out a few more idea's and confuse you too.

Grimm - The recommended sealed box volume for 10": 0.55 – 0.8 cu. ft., 12": 0.8 – 1.5 cu. ft. All the rest of the specs can be found on www.alpine-usa.com. I have my sub in a prefab wood box, but the other wrx here has a wood box fab'd into the spare tire well. It only raised the trunk floor about 1.5 inches and looks pretty clean, plus no messin' with fiberglass.
Dynapar - If you really want to run your amp at 1 ohm, I have a year old 12" rockford power HX2 dual 2 ohm vc sub thats in a custom dual 3/4" mdf box that I would let go for pretty cheap. Keep in mind that it is f'n heavy. I had it in the back of my old jeep with 1200 watts runnin' to it and it played as loud and hit harder than the two infinty perfects that I had in there previously.

I've built way too many sound set ups in cars, at one time I had an S10 with $15K worth of stuff. Anyways, for the money the best stuff out there is JL Audio, really clear sound. There's much better stuff made but it's usually alot more expesive. JL audio is by far the best bang for the buck. If all you want is boom, go with Kicker Solobarics they hit really hard and take up very little air space, we fit 3 12" Solobarics in a single cab S10

Grimm - I am at the Ridgedale store. I am there every day besides thursday and friday.
KaliforniaKid is right, JL's sound awesome for the money. Even their most basic subs sound pretty darn nice. But so do the alpines if they are priced right. I suppose the JL's would still be better if you had a hook-up on them. Anyways, let me know if you are interested in anything Ultimate sells.

BigFnE - I don't need anything as of right now. I haven't decided what I am going to do with the NXS yet, and my WRX has audioban all the way through, so it is ok for now :p. But I will definitly ask when I make my decision.

I was just going to stop in with my NSX....

Grimm - please do, I would love to see it. There is another guy that stops here once in a while with a red one that is supercharged and whatnot. I believe there is a picture in here somewhere with a member posed next to it from the car show a couple months ago up in maple grove.

Dynapar - sorry 'bout the hijak. I write no more.
