My fist response while driving along, coming around the corner on the inside lane....you know how it is, its a blind corner. The guy driving at us. I will admit, I yelled out a holly sheet. Scared the hell out of me. a 911 call and a transfer to state patrol got 2 squads there in under 2 minutes. Was he drunk? Nope Was he a diabetic? Nope He was an old man, that wanted to continue on to the next ramp so he could exit. He knew he was driving the wrong way on the freeway and wanted to take a short cut. He tried to go around us and continue on his way, several times. The air horn stopped him.
That's a scary place indeed for that. I know that corner very well. Glad you made it out of that one without injury. What were you driving? There comes a point where you need to give up the license, and I think he's past that. Much farther down and I'd have been one of the people having to scrape him off the steering wheel.
We were in an ambulance, so we lit it up in hopes that we would not get creamed. My partner was driveing. He had to actually back up about 15 feet, because when we slammed on the brakes we came to a stop next to him. He actually swerved out of our way from the inside lane to against the wall. Was definatly hairy. We have liquid o2 and big air cylinders on this truck, so had we been hit, it would have been really bad. But a head on from him into another driver would have been worse. So it was kind of a gamble, put ourselves in jeopardy, or risk him killing somone else. edit: just want to add a little cya disclaimer. I was not on a call at this time, had no contact with this man and am not violating any hipa crap by posting this. Just more of an fyi.
Spider sense tingling.... Why don't you go ahead and tell us what you think is wrong here. Or I can just give you a 24 hour break from the site so you can think about it and get over it.
My dad is to the age where he shouldn't be driving anymore. Mom quit years ago. I fear something like this, or worse, will happen to them before we get moved into the area and are able to help them out.
Glad you're okay and it worked out as well as it did! I dunno about MN, but here in WI licenses are renewed for 8 years at a go. This saves money on the whole processing bit, I guess. But they don't have an age cut off so as long as you make the renewal, you are good for 8 more years no matter how old you will be then. It is somewhat concerning.
OMG, I'm so notifying HIPAA over th.... Are you an EMT or a Medic? Which service are you running with? We've probably got some mutual friends.
How did he end up getting turned back around? Just waited for a gap in traffic? Or did the troopers have to stop traffic for a bit?
