So, I will be in the market for some black 17's in a few months. I am kinda set on Rota Boosts, but I am thinking about the Tarmacs also... Here's the other criteria: -must be availiable in an offset that clears STI Brembos -5x100 bolt pattern -8in. width -not a fan of the polished lip (would maybe reconsider if I found a lightly used set of Volks or something else that is teh sexay) -$1000 is the budget, for the most part (I already have tires) Throw me some ideas, post some pics/links to sexy wheels, lemme know if you are going to be selling or know someone else who may be selling in time for spring. Thanks in advance for your participation in project "teh blackness" -Matt
Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 wheels are seriously sweet in black. I think the going price for a set is around $850, but that was for 17x7.5 (but they do come in 17x8.0). I actually had a set of those on order earlier in the year, but they couldn't get them to me in time for the start of the AutoX season. I had to go with Rota GForce as plan B. Stuart.
+1 for the RPF1. That was the rim I was going to get for my WRX. That or the Super Advans, i've always wanted them:
I couldn't agree more. My opinion of the entire Advan range just dropped because of this one wheel. Shame, 'cos a lot of their stuff is just fantastic. Stuart.
I could really give a **** less about what parts are made for what market. If it's good, it's good; plain and simple.
Pay alittle more and get the JDM STi 5 spoke wheels by Rays. theya re teh sex. here are some pics: http://gruppe-s.com/Sti/sti_sub.htm you can get them much cheaper than gruppe-s prices you just need to look hard.
Stuart, were you going to order the 1.2's directly through the company, or do they have dealers in the U.S.?
whats the weight on the team dynamics 17x8? i have a connection to team dynamics so i might be able to get you a good deal
I was dealing with Don, the head honcho here in the US. I started talking to him 3 months before I needed the wheels, and still couldn't get them in time because I'm what you might call "fussy". Since I was going to be using the wheels for AutoXing, and would be changing them out frequently, I didn't want to have to mess with hub rings. So I insisted that they made the wheels with the correct hub size to fit the Subaru. I was also offered my choice of offset, so I was umming and ahhing over 1mm differences in offset between 47mm and 53mm for the 225/45-17 tyres I wanted to run. In the end I just opted for 48mm, since lots of other manufacturers make wheels for our cars in that offset, and they probably have a good reason to do so. Unfortunately, all this meant that by the time they got the mold made up in the UK, the wheels would arrive six weeks too late for the start of the season. I almost decided to wait, but in the end it would've meant running too many events on the crappy old 16" tyres. These may not be the lightest wheels on the market, but they are very strong. And they aren't much more expensive than the Rotas we tend to buy a lot of. Also, depending on size and offset, the weight can vary a lot more than you might think. Some of the sizes allow them to mill extra material away around the hub and or spokes, so some of the larger sizes aren't actually any heavier than the smaller ones. Stuart.
Also on the Tire Rack: O.Z. Ultraleggeras in black are just divine (my autox class rules prohibit anything wider than 7.5" ): And the SSR Type-C now comes in black as well as anthracite. Both are to die for, and lightweight: Neither are cheap, but if you bought any of these, I would be crazy jealous of you. Stuart.
Won't be affording the ssr's, probably not ever, but those ultraleggra's are pretty tyte. I have thought about them before, I am just not sure if they are too "busy" for me...
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Whee...lse&filterBrand=O.Z.&filterNew=All&sort=Brand or are you looking for used/cheaper? I'm looking at these too...
Zomg almost a year bump... I may actually be getting wheels this spring...didn't work out so well last year. I am now thinking O.Z. Chrono, Enkei RPF1, or some kind of wider Rota for moar flushness/concaveness. Any wheel I get will be black and 17x8 or maybe 9 if I go with rota's. I has 225/45 tires with at least one summer left and I hope to keep using them, so that may rule out 9in wide stuff...or does it? Maybe I get lower(?) offset to make moar flush? :dunno: Discuss plz, i know very little of this stuff ...
Gunmetal Rota Tarmac, as seen here: http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24771 I will be keeping them for winter/rallyx
I may be interested...in a couple months. Mine now have the snow tires on them, the boosts would become my winters, but would be painted black first My tamacs have scratches by the nuts also, fyi. Pm me is you wish
I do like those, I like less spokes though (chrono ht). Anyone run 17x9's around here? I am leaning towards that, just not sure how difficult it is to make them fit.
