yeah. looking at the 40D w/ the 18-55mm IS package. still looking at another lens to go with it. I am liking the 55mm f1.4 USM. i would have basic zoom capabilities and have a decent prime to take some portraits for not out of this world prices.

    Bump back to the top.

almost been a year and i still havent bought a camera. I am now debating over the Rebel XSi. I know it isnt the same quality as a 40d, but for just starting out I think that it should be able enough, plus since it takes SD I wont have to shell out for all new media.

Costco has a deal going right now on their website. $799 for the XSi, 18-55mm IS lens, 75-300mm lens, and a 2 gig SD card. This is by far the best deal I have seen on this camera.

    Any opinions on the XSi?

xsi or xti for daily use would be a great choise. Either one would be great.
This coming from a photographer. That probably doesn't help though.

xsi is a fine camera. you won't be dissappointed with it (as long as you don't ever borrow someone's 40D, 50D, 5D, 1D lol)

Well I think I am gonna pull the trigger on the XSi deal from Costco. I found out that I have to pay tax because they have in state store front (its $200 more in store than online) So it looks like it will be $850 for the XSi, 2 lenses and a SD card.

Does $850 seem like a good deal still? I am kind of tempted to wait for black friday and see if anything comes up. But if I do that I could just see myself putting it off forever.

^ too late. My XSi is on order and should be here in a week or so.

That is a pretty good deal, but I think I want something with more than 6 MP. I know there is more to a camera than the number of MP, but I already have a SD630 which takes great pictures in the 6MP range.
