I am just wondering how many people on the forum got an iphone. If you got one say why you did and what you like/dont like about it.

Thats true, the buttons are too small. But if you type on it with just the finger tips, like you do on a computer you can type faster than on a real keyboard.

no thanks. It's first gen and I expect it to be glitchy.. played with my co-worker's and it seemed "neat" but not worth $600.

Yeah, the price is a little steep but, you get quite a few things out of it, especially if you already have a MAC.

lol, i guess if you type with your index fingers like so many people do! Ive gotten quite used to typing with my thumbs on my phones keyboard but no way could i type 80wpm on either the iphone or mine.

I wouldnt mind playing around with one once some software is written for it. I think its kinda crazy how so many hacks are being needed to be done with it out of the box if you want full features etc. but really, its a phone, why are people buying it and not wanting to do phone and internet?

I've read about this as well. You're basically just buying an expensive ipod then... I don't get it. [well... I do get it, it can flip sideways  ]

well, its really much more than an ipod. it has a very good calendar and email client. The quality of the screen is just incredible. Internet is super cool too. And it is extremely easy to use. Just my opinion.

It's more that level of connectivity for killer apps than 'looking at the internet' for me. I would love to have Google Maps and all other kinds of internet enabled apps right in my pocket, but over EDGE speeds? No thanks. I have had EDGE phones for quite awhile, and the speed on Cingular's network just doesn't cut it. 150kbps is all I see on a good day.

You know they'll be kicking out new versions as soon as 3g takes a bigger hold... then it may be worth it.

Eh, I'll just stick to talking on my telephone. There comes a point when many of these nifty gadgets are just plain unnecessary (imho).

Don't get me wrong, I like gadgets but at the same time there's no way in hell I'd pay $600 for something like that.

Personally, Gmaps work perfect with EDGE! Loads very fast in both map and satellite mods. And edge is fast enough for emails with attachments.

its not really so much about the killer apps, that iphone does not have yet, but how easy it is to use it and how cool looking it is. It is really mostly an accessory that a lot of mid westerns are not so into. I mean people here in minnesota are not into fancy cloth and expensive accessories. But in like New York it is differnt.

Are you big gadget person? I kinda am, i love all kinds of new gadgets, i like talking about them, reading about them and if i can afford one i buy one.

I'm from California, and this still seems like an overpriced device with minimal usefulness. And while you may think midwesterners are simpletons, they in fact are just intelligent spenders that don't see the need for a 600 dollar gadget that has been done before, whereas NewYorkers are self absorbed brand whores that have to have the latest and greatest even though they will probably never use 90% of the device's functionality. They get these things as a status symbol. If you are concerned about your image and need 600 dollar phones to compensate, then may I direct your attention to www.t3hw00t.com. We have some items for sale that may help you with your personal 'deficiencies'. I have a pocketpc device that I've been able to get Google maps and the internet and email and a calendar with tasks and such for over a year. And the question was pointed at Zyklon who said that the reason the iPhone was cool was because of the killer apps. And I asked, what killer apps?

Oh, and the reason I asked the question in the first place....

A killer application (commonly shortened to killer app) is a computer program that is so useful or desirable that it proves the value of some underlying technology, such as a gaming console, piece of software, operating system, or piece of computer hardware. A killer app substantially increases sales of the hardware that supports it.

SO, again, I pose the question: "what killer apps?"

I did not mean it like that. I am just saying that people here in midwest are not into fashionable little things. But in other places, not just other countries, but other states its differnt. Its all about preference any way.

However, if you compare the way girls/women dress here in midwest and many other states you can tell what they think about fashion. If you go the mall of america 90% of teenage girls dress in pajama pants and xxl size hoodies. Way different in Russia and Europe.

yeah i was a little surprised about not being able to drag and drop songs. But its all software issues, i bet all things like, no video with the camera, no MMS, and other things will be fixed with the next firmware update.

"Even worse, this change means it's impossible to plug an iPhone into a computer and play its contents through iTunes. That's a pity. One of the unsung glories of an iPod is its ability to function as a highly portable jukebox at parties, nightclubs or other gatherings. Just connect it to your favorite PC or Mac, fire up iTunes (or better yet, Winamp if you're on a PC) and suddenly you have hundreds of new tunes to spice up that tired party shuffle that's been droning on for the past hour."

Sounds weird cause when you plug in the ipod to a pc or a mac, it will not allow you to even look at the songs on the ipod if the computer was not paired with that particular ipod before. If you plug in your ipod into my PC and lstart itunes it will tell you that it will wipe everything off of it and sync it with my library.

I have a shuffle and an ipod and I can play songs as described in the article. There is a setting in itunes that does not automatically do the "wipe/sync" you describe. I have it turned off myself as I find manually managing the songs easier since I have more music than I have space on my ipods.

I didn't mean that there are currently any killer apps, just that Apple is making a very solid platform with the capability of providing them.

I love my Windows Mobile as much as the next guy, but some of the tech behind the iPhone blows most of them away. 700MHz, and that huge hires screen (not to mention the multitouch... you're going to hear alot about those in the next year or so) are amazing and HTC doesn't have much that can touch it.

No removable storage, no 3G, and no GPS, really stops the device short of being the swiss army knife of portables IMO.

i use my stylus so little that I forgot to put it in my phone about 3 months ago and have never used it since if thats any indication of how easy it is to navigate withought one. im always using the thing a lot, and yeah i love the google map applet that they made.

www.google.com/gmm palm and windows supported currently for anyone wondering, free. just need internet (wifi works fine too).

I wouldnt be surprised if the next iphone will support more networks, have external memory and by then have more software support. I could of switched and gone with it but despite the "multi touch" everything else about it seemed like a step backward to me.

I saw that the PS3 just dropped to $499, and while I'm not even into video games and wouldn't buy it, at least it can provide hours of enjoyment while the Iphone will still always be just a phone...holy run-on sentence :)

Thats because buyers think of bugs in Apple products as features ;)
Anyway, here's a start for you, and some security bugs were known even before it got released.
Anyway, enjoy your new gadget. Just make sure you add full 'equipment protection' to your plan, it sucks to break $600 toy.

oh yeah, for sure get protection plan on any pda phone. ive played soccer with mine plenty of times, dropped one 2 back that looked pretty bad, and a guy i work with dropped his and cracked the screen, had the screen replaced but then the screen calibration could never be right. phones drop, get put in the washing machine etc, and at 500+ for replacing i figure ill take the 7/month hit for it. just got 10 a month taken off my bill for being with sprint over 2 years, which i added another feature.

that would be nice to get a protection plan. How do I get one? Would it be through AT&T or apple? How much is the plan like that usualy?
