we have has two 02 wrxs now that have had this problem. My back windows will roll down but will not roll up. It used to roll up but had a little diffulty before but now after driving from St. Paul to the Southwest suburbs, we still cant get it to roll up. Does anyone know why this is happening and is it a common occurrance?
I know my 00 Legacy has a flaky window switch for the driver's side window. I have to kinda wiggle it around and pull at a certain angle to make it work sometimes. Possibly that? I'd say pop the door panel and hook a test light to the motor wire clip and try futzin with the switches to see if maybe the back door switch is more reliable.
We are going to try to take the door panel off now and see if we can do something about it. Anyone know how many screws or clips I need to take out to remove the panel? I tried both switches, the driver and passengers, and nothing happened about it going back up. If someone has experience with it please give me some hints.
ok, got it panels off. I looked at everything and it looks fine, looking for missing bolts and whatnot. Where is the window motor located at? I have no idea where to start? help?
Before you look for the window motor itself, I'd say try some things with the wire harness plug that goes to the window switch. Do you have a 12v test light or multimeter? How about a Chilton's book, or better yet, factory service manual? Also, if you can, visually inspect the wires in the door hinge area to see if they're cracking. My brother's Astro van had some cracking wires in the driver's door jamb, that lead to both the driver's and passenger's side windows being flaky. Very unlikely, but something to look for. I'd volunteer to help out, assuming you're somewhere in the Mtka/Chan/Excelsior area, but I'm already replacing a fuel injector today.
or you could pull a different window switch, which you know that works, and use that to close the window for now.
