So yea, I'm going to store the subie over winter. I know, I know, it's a shame but she's never seen salt and I'd like to keep it that way. I've read through this thread on nabisco. My question is, with the properties of e85 fuel, do I store it full of fuel? Is stabil safe to use with e85? Some other car forums suggest fully draining tank of e85, filling with pump93/stabil, running the car a little to fill the lines, then storing. I do have a pump map for the car to safely hobble from point A to B but I'd like to use that as a last resort. Also, places to store? I can store it in my garage but I'd rather store it elsewhere and use the garage space. Thoughts and opinions? Thanks mnsubaru.
Not quite sure on e85. I do know 1 thing . USE DRYER SHEETS!!! in and around your car. Even if you think there are no mice, just to be safe. They chew everything. Moth balls work better, if you dont mind the rancid smell.
+1 on the dryer sheets, I used those in my old mustang in my parents barn and no mice got to it. As for the E85, my vote would be to drain it all. One summer I forgot the stabil in my snowmobile, sat over the summer with just 93 E10. That fall I took the carbs apart to clean and there was stuff growing, like fuzzy mold. I never noticed that problem before E10, so the ethanol is not good for sitting long periods of time.
Fill the tank with E85 or just switch over to pump gas. I've never used Stabil so I cant speak for that. If I keep our second buidling, we will have room for heated storage. I already have people lined up to get in and store their cars but theres plenty of room.
Dryer sheets work until the dryer sheet flavor is gone. Then it becomes nesting material. So you may want to change them out on occasion.
Totally agree, maybe put a plastic bag under the sheets so they dont leave white crap on your carpets? Just an idea.
Dryer sheets work for a while.... if you don't change them out they lose their scent and then rodents use them in their nests FACT!
Wax it, top off the tank and add the appropriate stabilizer following the instructions, pull the battery and store in a warm place, pack with dryer sheets, put steel wool in the mufflers, crack the windows just a hair, put down a vapor barrier, put a good quality car cover on and you are good for 6 months. I stored my Spec-V like this for 4 winters and that car stayed showroom quality the entire time I had it.
I kinda want to try one of these: http://www.carcapsule.com/ORDER_the_CarCapsule.htm For now I just put down a sheet of poly under the car and set mouse traps around it. Full tank with stabil, trickle charger, and check on it occasionally. Deegee, check with RS and some other shops in your area. A lot of them provide storage. You could store it on Imola's showroom floor next to their customers' gt2's too
No idea. I can't imagine it's noticeably more than the trickle charger I keep on the car or the air purifier I run year round in the bedroom though.
On my nova I use dryer sheets and these Fresh Cab packets. Ive had no problems. I also have mouse poison in the garage and know that the buggers get in there because I find a dead one about once a month. But this seems to keep them out of the car. In the spring I throw them in a ziploc and use them again the next winter. Some how I got a 4 pack of them dont know why they sell such large packs on the website. http://earth-kind.com/ I use this on the battery over the winter. http://www.ctek.com/EN-US/consumer/mus-7002.aspx For the gas I use Seafoam and a full tank of premium. I have no idea what to do on e85 I try to start it once a month and move it some to prevent flat spotting the tires and make sure the engine can get a little action. I know your car is quite a bit different but maybe one of these things will work for you. P.S. i need coffee!!! woot!
