I just got a RE SR 10 Sub, and put it in a box yesterday. I was wondering what the best way to wire this is, since it is a dual voice coil. Right now i wired it in series, i figures that, that would increase the impedance so i would be on teh safe side. i am using a hifonics brutus 1000d amp. should i switch it to parrallel?
I am not sure but some more info would help give you the right answer. What is the amp stable to in terms of ohms. (ie: 2, 4, 1) What ohms are the coils in the sub?
What impedance are the coils? and what are the specs on your amp. Im going to assume its a dual 4 ohm? In which case if your amp is 2ohm stable and the sub can handle the RMS power output at that ohm load i would wire them parallel.
The sub said that each coil was dual 4ohm. Th amp is dual 4ohm, and can be run at 4ohm, 2ohm and 1ohm. putting out 350wrms, 700wrms, and 1000wrms respectively.
parrallel... i've only run series on multiple subs and power draining subs(power acoustic, L7's) but you should be fine either way
wired it up in parallel. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=161 according to that website having it in series ups it to 8ohm which isnt so hawt fo rmy amp. so i switched to parallel. it hits much harder now. i just need to go through and play with the setting on the deck and amp. right now i have the gain turned up aways, but i dont have the sum out on the deck all the way up, and i rarely go above 10 volume. so this is pretty good so far.
Gains all the way up isnt the best thing for your amp and sub. Im too tired to explain why though. Tommorow if somebody else dosent.
I am sure it isnt the greatest thing, but i never crank the deck up over 1/2 volume it just get too loud, and having the gain set high gives me more bass at lower volume levels.
wired in parallel into a 2 ohm load will be no problem for them amp. As for gain setting, see here http://forum.realmofexcursion.com/showthread.php?t=1990 for how to do it properly.
