2000 Legacy GT 130kmiles. Turns over just fine, no CELs , just not a hint of it want to fire up. Jumped it just to see if it made a difference, nope. I had it floored for several minutes while cranking and don't smell any gas. Does have half a tank. Checked plug wires and everything seems plugged in. Car was driven a couple hours before with not a hint of problems. It has had the plugs, plug wires and coil replaced within the last year. Ideas?
Dont ever say that in front of a gti owner. Anything on a car can fail. But if you didn't smell any fuel then fuel isn't getting to the cylinders, like bikerboy said check pressure then fuses.
also correct me if im wrong but on our cars when u hold it all the way to the floor does that not shut off the fuel pump and is used as a way to clear up extra fuel in the system? thought i read that somewhere could be wrong.
I'm pretty deaf and don't really hear the walbro in my WRX. It was dark and the driver and I needed to be elsewhere last night so troubleshooting was limited. Luckily he parked someplace that it could be left overnight with no problems. I have tools now and a new pump. Also have the old coil. Will check the fuse first though. On the street replacement....
Yes, WOT while cranking will shut off the injectors to clear a flooded engine. So no gas while doing that is normal. As OB1 said, pull the top fuel line, lay it in an empty bucket or bottle, turn the key on, and see if you get some gas in there. If you don't get gas, it's a pretty good chance it's the pump, but not 100%. I've heard of a few situations (primarily on older cars) where the ECU won't prime the fuel system if the CAS is failed.
I got the pump, I broke a plastic nozzle on the top part of whole assembly that fits on top of the tank. Squeezed the tabs and pulled on the hose - crack, broke right at the elbow. I'm now looking at the upull places or if someone has one. I know that I can look for a legacy or outback in that year, what are the other model or years are compatible? I took the back seat out and tried to start the car and not a sound came out of that area.
Are the lines after the GM style 90 fitting plastic or rubber? I'm guessing they are plastic. This means you will need to replace that whole length and I don't think there is enough room to do it with the tank in http://opposedforces.com/parts/lega...system_turbocharger/fuel_tank/illustration_2/ You can get those fittings (I know they have straight not sure on 90*'s) at NAPA but installing them on those plastic lines is a pain.
Plastic, one came off real easy, the other just snapped with about the same amount pressure. I am sort of hamfisted and was squatting on a curb/snowbank on a side street in River Falls trying to do this. O'Reillys wanted $350 or something for the whole assembly, Rock Auto about the same, Amazon $240, ebay used $69. Didn't look very replaceable to me. At least by me. Gluing that didn't seem like a wise idea either. oooh that site is nice - thanks!
Oh my I didn't realize the BE Legacys changed that to a dumb plastic assembly. I was thinking the lines on the other side. I would get on the horn and find a yard with one, should be much cheaper.
I was just about to say, you gotta be super ham-fisted to bust one of those off. Then I see the picture of the plastic assembly. The old ones were steel I believe. The whole unit was metal.
I am capable of just about anything to screw things up. I'll pay the $69 to get it delivered to my door. The son can make other arrangements to get to school. Isn't not like he has a job or anything. He's not driving any of my cars.
Pump assembly showed up Friday afternoon from PAM in St. Cloud. Bolted in and the car is running. Yippee.
