The car: 1997 Subaru Legacy GT

    The part: Coil Pack

I picked up a new coil pack from car quest and this is what I got. The holes don't even match up on the intake manifold.

I also searched around on O'reillys website and the same coil pack on the left is what they said is for my car.

Why would they say that part is the correct one?

Generic fitment part. Do the plug and the wires fit? If so, that might be the best you'll get aftermarket.

EDIT: After looking at the bottom picture as well, I am gonna say no.

I guess that's what you get for going aftermarket.

Thats a 98+ phase 2 pack. As phi11 said you need a phase 1 pack, though telling them 97 should have gotten you the correct part.
Personally I much prefer Orielly's to NAPA mainly because their website doesn't suck and prices are usually better but that's just me.

That one is still working I'm just getting misfire codes for cylinders 1 and 2 every 3 weeks to a month or so and I replaced the plug wires to see if that fixed the problem and it did for a bit, so now I am on to the coil pack.

Is the one you have hanging out new or used and how long was it used for?

its used, not sure how long i pulled it off of a motor my dad got for me. I would let it go for cheap since i haven't a clue about its performance. that is if you need an extra, if they wont exchange it for the right one. which they should do
on second thought, i can always just throw it on my car and see if you are interested.
