ok so my race team needs a car. We have a line on a couple we are gunning for this weekend but it needs to be about $300. This explains why: If anyone sees anything remotely decent please let me know. We will have cash in had by late next week or the week after and are ready to buy soon. If you can find a subaru then hey, all the better.
Its sponsored by an organization that pretty much exists to sponsor it. The team I am on is just a bunch of guys who always wanted to do the race. We're in the planning stages although I just got a line on a free car that could be interesting, the first ever fox body ford!
i read about this in last years car and driver magazine, some of the cars entered were definatly not 500$ cars. the car that they entered (car and driver mag) was a 2000 olds aurora 500$ i think not. but at anyrate would be fun wish i still had my 89' civic i got for 50$.
there was a crx for 300, just blew motor, not sure if sold yet, will check if not sold, i'll reply back body was in good condition, also had a full exhaust, everything was good but motor blew, owner didn't need it no more.
that looks like a lot of fun. I'd love to do that some day. interesting rules "1.4: Claiming Race: At the end of the competition, organizer may elect to purchase any vehicle from its owner(s) for $500. In other words, don't spend a lot on a cheater—cause if you do, you ain't gonna own it much longer." http://www.24hoursoflemons.com/rules/

my cousin's car just too a crap, and he's looking for something in this price range asap too.. curly, any way you could get me a contact on that one?
Pretty standard for these types of competitions so that no one cheats, and if they do they lose their car. I've heard of two other variations of this rule: any team can buy an opponents car for $500 at the end of the race, or all cars are purchased by the organizer at the beginning of the competition for $500 (basically only for some rich guy that wants a bunch of crappy cars for some reason).
spec MX-5 (the new spec miata league) is an engine claim series, in which the bottom 5 can claim the engines of the top 5, just to ensure nobody tries anything sneaky. Its a relatively common anti-cheat rule. Same with teh GRM 2007 challenge, they reserve the right to purchase any car for $2007 on the spot, making it costly to cheat. That being said, there is so much cheating going on at LeMons its not funny. The Car and Driver car was a cheatermobile deluxe. and yeah we were in line to buy the 85 corolla, it was being sold by a friend of mine but he got more for it than we were willing to pay. Might be getting 2 neons for $500, that would be sweet.
