i'm trying to find an un-modded 2005 sti... or a babied ride.... starting to think this is never going to happen.... I just don't want someones toy they beat the crap out of an dare now movin on to other things. anyone have any leads / advice or anything, all help is apreciated. I'm looking to buy in nov / dec. -=sean=-
... but not likely. I mean, why do people buy an STi in the first place? Grandma isn't going to buy one to drive to church on Sundays.
I agree. The only way to get a non beat on STi is to buy a new one. Especially if you're looking to buy one that someone is selling after only having it for a year. Nasioc.com has tons of STi's go up for sale there, mostly all of them have probably been abused by their former owners, but you really don't have any way of knowing that. Any compression related problems from break in aren't going to manifest themselves until you get it up higher in mileage anyways so you don't have many tools to ensure you're getting a pristine car.
If you're willing to go out of state you may have luck in the Chicago area or call Grayson Subaru in TN, they might be able to help.
Im not sure if it is still available but last time i drove by Denny Heckers Hyundai they had an 05 WRB STi with 3500 miles. Doubt it could have been beat too bad in that short of time. I pulled in and test drove it. Real nice. he said an old man traded it in for a 06 sonata.
my buddy will be trading his 04 back in off of lease... all he did was a CAI and he is I think late 30's early 40's in age and an insurance salesman... hes raced a few porsches on 494 etc, but I know it has not been beat up... I wanted to get it if they write mine off but I doubt they will.... can let ya know if interested...
I bought mine from a 40 year old with 28K mi and I had to replace the flywheel and clutch. Other than that it was fine. Expensive to replace though. It'll be a very hard find as it's an STI. Go '06.
one thing about sti's unlike wrx's is if they have only had a single owner there is a good chance the owner is 30+ and an unlikely chance it was abused like it was driven someone in their late teens/early 20's.
well this might not be waht you looking for. but you migh try waiting. :silence: they have decided not to continue with the wierd grille design. so this should lead to a much better looking STi (comparably) and also in 07 or 08 the body redesign is coming up. who knows you might find something you like better. plus i highly doubt the engine/driveline is gonna change that much in 1-2 yrs. just my .02, since finding a nice used sti is hard.
IF the previous owner KNOWS what he/she is doing when driving the car hard, then it's fine. IF the owner doesn't quiet KNOW what he/she was doing when driving the car hard, that could cause some problems...... Yes I drive my car hard, but I do it right. IT still runs just as strong! My friends wouldn't buy my car JUST because I drove it hard....lolz...funnies....wear would be..engine, tires, brakes, shocks...wheel bearings, clutch, syncros. That's ALL what's going to be worked hard when driving the car HARD. The WORST that could happen is the tranny going out...which is why I don't do the LIGHTING fast shifting....just a smooth quick shift.
The 2008 is going to be a complete redesign -- ie, new chassis and proabably a new engine and driveline.
hatchback style and also manufactured in the USA... not that intrested.... I just found a 2006 blue sti with gold rims with 10k miles. I can get it out the door with tax / title / licence for under 30k. completely un-modded. was a present for his kid for doing good in school. The kid messed up, the car came back. test drove it today, complete stock... runs liek a charm, drives smooth. But like everyones said.. no known issues till after some crazy miles area llready on it. oh well... I'll be checking on loans tomorrow, and eventially busting out my airbrush and re-painting i'll let you guys know what happen.
:eek3: Sounds like a recipe for abuse imho. I guess if the clutch and gears are still intact after 10k miles, maybe it will be OK. You can probably get better rates on new than used anyway; if you are spending 30k why not try for a new one?
took it for a test drive... seems like shes still running strong. original tires... full tread life. I knew the people that brought it in. and i'll be getting this out the door with tax/title/licence for about 28 grand. I doubt I could get a brand new one out the door for under 35.
The 08 is not going to be a hatchback. They've already proven that. There is a 4door and a 5 door planned...just like we have now.
so little has been proven by this point that I try to keep up, but really, who knows what its going to look like. I'd wait to buy one if I ad any inclination it might be worth buying... which might not happen until well into next year. I think the debut is now set for april so I'm just not going to wait that long probably...
I was thinking about trading/selling my car next year for an STI, but after hearing the legacy, tuned by STI may hit the shores 07/08 I'm really anxious to find out if that would be a possibility.
Legacy STi also wont happen as much as it needs to happen. Subaru needs to be mindful of becoming a niche-market car company. The same reason you wont see a Forester STi. They can't afford to have a bunch of niche market cars. If they are smart, they will continue to concentrate on making cars that compete in the 25-30k price range next to the Camry and the Accord. Most folks, given the option, would rather spend the nearly 40k that they'd spend on a Legacy STi on a BMW or an Audi or a Mercedes...THe people that are spending 40k on cars want those premium brands and they don't see Subaru as one of those premium brands.
Proud owner.... 2006 wrx sti. blue/gold rims 100k mile extended (just in case... couldn't hurt specially on this type of car.) so now onto the advice for driving... damn, such a difference in engine, sound, driving.... what do you guys average rpm shift at for dailydriving round 4? I have a feeling I could easily hurt it ... lol my baby.... next mini toy is the blowoff valve.
Save your money on the blowoff valve, get yourself a downpipe and catback, or turbo back exhaust. And you will want an AccessPort. Those things should absolutely be your first modifications to any turbocharged subaru. Read my "Newbie Questions" thread in the Mods/Maintenance forum. http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8892 <---Link to it. It will give you the why for alot of common questions about BOVs, Intakes, Boost Controllers, and Turbo Timers. The average cost for a decent turbo back and AccessPort is around 1200-1500 bucks, but it will add around 50whp to your car. A Blowoff Valve will add nothing but a noise to your car.
check the link readymix posted, and go do some reading on nasioc. If you are in it for the noise, get the SPT intake+heat shield, it won't give you the 20hp or whatever they advertise, but it won't muck up the MAF readings and you'll get plenty of psssshhht. Or do a search for "silencer delete."
yea, right now it's a noise thing... 300/300 is plenty fast enough for me. filthy mn vibians don't have lives do you go throw one of you massive old school shows or something with your spare time... and then spend the next year complaining about how it's nothing like the first 3 you went to "back in the day" so yea... just looking for a quick release thats not gonna tweek out the ecu.
rofl. you are without a doubt one of the most retarded rave scene people I have ever had the occasion to be involved with. Don't make me inform all of your new friends here about your incessant, reatrded crackheaded panderings for donations, or your all around completely idiotic drug/alcohol/i dont even know what fueled ramblings or your incredibly iniane threats to physically assault people who disagree with you. At least i never played happy hardcore for a bunch of crackheads dressed like a character from mad max ... I kind of enjoyed not having to relate to fuchups like you anymore. pretty soon you'll be spamming these boards advertising you need money to build a JEZUS STI SYSTOM. its already apparent you know as much about cars as you do about lasers. Enjoy your new car, hopefully you've calmed down enough to have it for a few months before you wrap it around a tree.
happy hardcore dressed like mad max was good times..... the laser was built and sold, hence the new car. If you think passed addictions are good to make fun of, throw it at me.... but thats pretty sad to kick me in the face for attempting to learn more about something I know less then you about. but if that makes you feel more badass. then enjoy. readymix - was definatly good reading... was thinking of the turbo timer as well... but now I guess i'm convinced I don't need it.
come on man, you threatened to murder/assault people i know, and me personally. Lets not act like you were exactly mr sainthood. Hey, if you've calmed down since then and dont act like a spammin retard, then fine, you'll be better off in life. And its good to read some faqs, the only thing you need less than a turbo timer is a blow off valve. You have a water induction cooled turbo, so you wont ever need one.
Not to get in the middle of things here, but sometimes we should let the past remain in the past. people of all sorts make mistakes, both big and small, sometimes they learn, sometimes they don't. But let's not intentionally stir up anything on this board. Please stop ripping into each other and move forward in good grace.
so I read. just a damn shame cuz that nice "fooosh" alwase made me smile on my buddies 240. is there a better way to go about it without the sacrafice of the ecu dumping rich? or is this something I should just bite the bullet, and live with stock?
No, I get a bit of noise with my GPMOTO silencer delete, K&N Filter (stock box). My loud exhaust covers up most of the noise, but I can still hear it a bit. If my exhaust was quieter it would be more prevelant.
No negatives, I've had one for over a year...love it The GP Moto silencer delete replaces the turbulence causing stock air chamber in the fender and retains the front fresh (cold) air stock intake
I've decided to wait on any engine / exhaust mods for a while untill I get a complete feel for the car. prior to changing it and then not knowing if theres anything wrong... I plan on searhing around.. but i'll post it here anyway.. does anyone know if the PIONEER AVIC-Z1 fits in the double din?
shoulda bought mine back in february, better yet shoulda bought my brother's a couple weeks ago, both no track time nor street raced. Some guy here bought my brother's from Hopkins Honda...
