I am looking for bushings for my control arms. What other things should I replace while I am in there? what brand/ kind of bushings should I get? Links to websites help lots. thanks.
hey bill, I have some whiteline rear differential bushings I installed on my car that I'll sell you in a month! I put them on and decided that while I LOVE the rigidity they give the rear end, I'm not a fan of the road transfer. I drive my wagon long distance everywhere I go, and even a LITTLE bit more road noise is a huge sacrifice for me. I'm weird, everyone else thinks I'm crazy. Still on the fence about swapping them back out but I probably will. They'll have been on the car 100 miles. Or just buy a set from whiteline and try them out for yourself!
I'm planning on doing a complete OEM bushing set on my front CA's, hopefully new tie rod ends, and motor and tranni mounts in the following months when I get time. I also want to pull off all of the suspension and media blast and paint everything to get rid of the Minnesota winters! I've heard the energy bushings transfer looooooots of road noise, and that the steering rack bushings are a PITA to install, and dont change the performance noticeably. Ive heard lots of raves about whitelines diff support bushings, the whiteline lock out bolts, and perrin's rear diff lock support. Just my $.02 You already have shifter bushings and FR and RR Sways, endlinks, and bushings im sure so I'll ignore that. lols... waiting to hear everyone elses responses!
LCA bushings first and foremost. Start there. Energy Suspension stuff is great, had that all over my entire Fiero. HUGE improvement.
Keep in mind that poly bushings require lubrication. If you hear them squeak, they are destroying themselves. If I were to do it over again, I'd consider STi Group N bushings instead of the Energy Suspension kit (which actually isn't very complete) and SuperPro stuff. http://www.rallispec.com/prod_chart_stibush1.htm http://www.rallispec.com/prod_mount.htm
Whiteline and SuperProPoly can pretty much take care of everything for you. The funny thing is, you'll need to buy from both manufacturers if you want to hit everything, since while they have a great many identical products (apart from the colour), they also have a couple of bushings that they keep to themselves. I also think the TiC tranny mount bushings are a stroke of genius, since they are a symmetrical design, unlike everybody else's offerings. Whiteline - http://www.whiteline.com.au/ SuperProPoly - http://www.fulcrumsuspensions.com.au/SuperPro/superpro.html TiC - http://www.turninconcepts.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_9_10_22&products_id=310 If you'll be doing the rear lateral link bushings, you'll have to remove the 'long bolts' in the rear. Do yourself a favour, and invest in a couple of spares before you start. These have an annoying habit of breaking off. MA Performance are a local vendor for the Whiteline/SuperProPoly stuff. Stuart.
LCA = lower control arms??? The STi group N stuff can be had through the dealership right??? Thanks for the info.
