How about getting a good 2.2L and dropping that in? Save yourself the head gaskets issues...

Because he's asking for a 2.5L DOHC, I believe all the 2.2Ls were SOHC. Which means he'd need to rewire a bunch of things. A DOHC 2.5L would be a simple drop in repair. And the new MLS headgaskets don't have the same issue the old ones did.

I hear ya. However I was just throwing out another option. Phase I DOHC's have been know to be good boat anchors... :) Good EJ22's can be found relatively cheap (cheaper than the 2.5's), and if you use the right year it is a drop in replacement, plug-n-play, no rewiring required. A 1995 2.2L would be a great candidate for the '98 since they have the dual ported exhaust, everything plugs right in, and you can buy them at a few local yards. Throw in some new cam seals, main seals, timing belt, etc, etc (which needs to be done on the 2.5 anyways), and away you go. Just need to make sure to get a 2.2 with an EGR valve if you have one so you don't throw the CEL for that...

Anyway, just my 2 cents and another opinion... :)

I have a 2.5 DOHC that just threw a bearing or two. I;m in need of a motor and I see you have 2 with bad heads.... Well I have good heads. Interested in selling one of them?
