Hey guys, Im in need of a 3.9 manual gearbox for my 93 turbo legacy. First gear will not engage. While i have the rest of the box working fine it really sucks not having first. I would like to get a replacement so i can still drive while i try and fix this one. If anyone has an old turbo box or knows of another 3.9 box that will work with my 1:1 center and male axle stubs let me know. Thanks!
Any '93-'96 Impreza L or LX AWD tranny will work. They were all 3.9 FD with a 1:1 center diff. I'm not sure- but the later year L's might work as well.
Can anyone tell me if there are any strength differences between the two? Im putting down a fair bit more power over a stock 22T. It needs to be a hydraulic fork also (not sure if it can be swapped). Also anyone know if i can swap my center into a WRX/RS box and do a pull to push conversion?
I suggest getting a NA 4.111 tranny and matching rear diff. They seem to hold up better than the 3.90 turbo trannys, which are supposed to be stronger in theory. You can swap your turbo clutch setup over as long as its not a 6mt. You just have to keep the matching flywheel/pressureplate combo. IE wrx clutch & flywheel, or Tleg clutch & flywheel. The input shaft is the same for all 5mts.
you can do the push/pull conversion. I know 95lwrx knows some on this topic cuase we talked about it awhile ago. i did not seem to retain any of that info however. good luck
Well i would like to retain the 3.9 ratio since i already have a VLSD rear. Unless i go full wrx driveline but I cant spend that much at this point. I found this i was debating about getting. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1304025 Now with what your saying about using any combo on a 5MT, does this apply if im doing a push/pull conversion. IE can i use my turbo flywheel/clutch with the LGT box? Or do i need to find a LGT flywheel and clutch kit. I understand all EJ flywheel bolt patterns are the same. I need to know if there are any differences in the pressure plate between a push and pull clutch fork It sounds like for the push/pull conversion i would have to change the slave cylinder and depending on how i want it to feel perhaps the master. Is there anything else im missing?
its i think a 00? its from Joel, straight out of his car, i was going to swap it into my wagon but i cant justify the time and cost right now. i was thinking like 175obo for the tranny and diff. contact prezawagon for more info on it as it was his. you can come look at it if you want, its in the back of my wagon
FYI 93-95 Impreza are 4.111FD 96-01 Impreza L are 3.900FD 02-05 Impreza TS/OBS/RS Wagon are 3.900 02-04 Impreza 2.5RS sedan are 4.111 '05+ 2.5RS Sport are 4.111 '05 2.5RS regular/2.5i are 3.900
Sorry, didn't see this post. Yeah, my old gearbox out of my 2000 outback sport, just under 115k miles. Center diff needs to be replaced, it will bind when it gets hot (after driving 10+ miles etc.) 2nd gear would grind once in a while, but I never tried synthetic or uncle scotty's blend in it.
You can save your clutch/flywheel and put it on any manual. No need to convert to a cable setup. I'd rather pull a tranny than do that actually.
So Dan, your telling me my turbo clutch/flywheel combo will work in any 5MT gearbox despite if its a cable or hydro push or pull clutch fork? Can anyone second this?
Well, now, I'm not shure. I'd have to look at an NA tranny to see if it can accept a turbo/pull clutch. But to get you rolling, I have a cable pedal assembly and brand new cable sitting here, and I'm getting sick of looking at it.
