I didn't get a computer for Christmas. Instead I got money for a computer. I have $1000 for a laptop, and I'm looking for recommendations. Necessities: Decent video card, NOT SHARED MEMORY. Wants: Blue-Ray drive + DVD/CD burner. It does not need to come with an OS, for obvious reasons. I highly prefer new, but if its a mega-sweet deal on a used one I won't be able to pass it up. Will be used for a little bit of gaming, hence the decent video card. Thank you in advance.
Does it need to be a laptop? Personally, I think most "gaming" laptops end up being a complete and utter rip-off, as you can usually get significantly better performance for about half the price if you get a desktop (or even better, build one), and even the highest end laptops can rarely play the most recent games. In all honesty, you could likely get a very quality gaming desktop for around $500 if you picked out parts and built it yourself, and could then still get a mid-range laptop (that would do word and internet, etc) with the left over $500. /just my 2c
