Just like the tittle states. But i don't know whats "good" in the GPS world. I am going to use some of my Christmas bonus from work to purchase one. I am thinking around $300, but i can spend more. I am looking for one with a 4.3" touch screen, voice guided directions, has to be able to go from my car to the work truck with ease, am have seen some that show where gas stations and food places are"dont know if that is all of them or just some" but it would be nice, also be able to get lake maps for it, as i go up to Red lake to fish in the winter. Those are some of the features i would like, but i understand some can get pretty spendy. Wondering what some of you guys have or have heard good things about. -Jeremy

I dont think they have lake maps.....and i couldnt find a us store. Whats the difference between a handheld and a car GPS? Cause there both protable, right? I doubt i would ever have mine hiking or anything where i can't mount it to a windshield.

mine has a mount to the windshield... it shows lakes, but maybe not in the detail as you are wanting if you want lakes...

its a cheap simple but so far very impressive little unit...

I am going to be using it to plot my boundary lines soon... mine you can add the gps points in and find them etc...

    there is a USA site...

Cool, i probably dont need a exact lake map, because the only thing the lake map would give me is the depth and contour of the lake, but i dont "need" that i just want it so we can mark a spot on the GPS and go to the exact spot later on or give the cordinates to someone else. I'll keep Mio in mind.

lol, funny. It a Raymond Weil, my dad gave them to me not that long ago. He had them for like 10 years and now decided to give them to me. Sentimental value more than anything.

    Yeah, why is that?

Take a look at the TomTom One LE at Best Buy. It's 150 right now (250.00 normally). That unit is packed with features you can't get in other units at double the price. TomTom also has Mapshare now. If you haven't heard of it check it out.

As far as the Garmin vs. TomTom vs all the rest I'll only say this.. TomTom has about the best customer service out there with Garmin being a close second. MIO and Navigon are pretty much the worst you can do. Give this site a look. http://www.gpsreview.net/forums/

i think its Garmin, not garvin... Garmin uses Navteq brand maps, while Tomtom uses TeleAtlas maps. Navteq maps are the most accurate in the US, and TeleAtlas are the most accurate in Europe.

My parents own a Tomtom Go 910 and they love it. They have found a few discrepancies but nothing that's too bothersome.

Garmins are known to be the most accurate, but Tomtoms have the most options with better prices.

Mios aren't in the same level as Garmin or Tomtom but they have some unique features that other GPS systems don't such as a built in 2mp camera. Also, the only unique feature of Magellans is that you can speak to the Magellan and tell it basic commands but you can not tell it a full address.

    Your decision.

Thanks for that site, but i wish i would have looked at it sooner, cause Taras and I already came to an agreement on his(Mio-C320). I was looking at a Garmin Nuvi-200 before talking to Taras and after reading just a couple post on the gps review forums it sounds like the C320 has many flaws, i am not bashing it, but there post werent to good. Like gps off by 200yds, speech is really bad, screen gets dirty and scratch really easily, battery lasts for maybe 2 hrs at full charge, touch screen dousnt work sometimes. I didnt find and "good" post about it, but i still have some hope for the little thing. I really wanted a 4.3" inch screen and from reading there website it sounds like thats the only thing it has going for it.

I have had two mios and they are ok. The only thing i dont like about them is that to charge it you have to actually plug in the cord every time. Not like some other gps units that you just stick in to the cradle. Never had a problem with the screen at all.

While that may have been true a year ago I don't think it is now. Read the reviews on that site from people with current maps/units. Tele Atlas and Navteq are about dead on. If anything the Tele Atlas maps have the capability to be more accurate (and up to date) with TomTom using Mapshare now.

I got a Garmin nuvi 200 at best buy a couple weeks ago. It's my first GPS so I don't really have any thing to compare it too... but I really like it, it works great. However I'm pretty sure it won't show any detail for lakes.
If the GPS from Taras doesnt work out, maybe check into the 'magellan crossover'. Supposedly it does driving, and the hiking/adventure type stuff... so it would possibly have lake info.

Yah the Nuvi 200 sounds like a good unit, but i like the features the GPS i am getting has, but if i dont like it i will look to others, but i am not worried, but thanks for the info.
