I mentioned it in the "what did you do with your subaru today" thread.....but I actually took some pictures of it today... some broad made a left turn from the right lane in front of me on friday night. She was cited for unsafe change of course, so she was at fault....but yea.... car is now at a body shop awaiting an estimate. pictures: passenger side wheel is pushed back noticeably, control arm looks mostly straight, couldn't see the leading rod. CV joint BROKE! like axle flopping around. would explain why it would roll a bit in park, but I could still drive it forward 10 ft or so out of the road. Driver's side fender is pushed back and interferes with the door they way the headlight is bent back, it will involve some serious prying to look in the engine bay.....so I have no idea what's going on in there.
ziptie rally: 3 months, 3 cars. who's next? tall dan? round dan? bilknutz? scuba_crashtest_steve? GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN that sucks chux, the xt6 was such a cool car - i can't see pics at work but i'm imagining it with 100% more crash
Agreed. At the very least, try to salvage the jackass steering wheel from that car. Those ones are WACKY!
yea, I'm betting the insurance company totals it.... but I know a couple guys who do salvage work. One who I know doesn't mind if I help. So, if possible, I'll take the insurance money and try to fix it anyway. otherwise, I'm on the lookout for other '80s coupes. Audi GTs and VW Scirroco's at the top of that list.
Hey Chux I might be talked into selling the 85 front wheel drive XT I have. My son wants my XT for his first car because of the scoop and wing. The 85 is cleaner then my 86. If you are down this way stop in and take a look. I havent decided what I want to do yet. Oh and dont bother with that blue one in Elk River on Craigslist. I stopped to look at it and it's all rusted away. The 4 mounting points under the car are gone and he still wants 900 for it. Seats ripped, dash busted up, parts car maybe. john
yea, pretty sure there's no way that the insurance company will pay shop rates to have it fixed. might fix it myself. might buy this: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/cto/1301066333.html
^might do both. hatched an evil plan today that involves buying the audi as a DD, and resurrecting the '6 with 100% more badass :yumyum:
Screw the Audi since it's not a Quattro. Get this: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ram/cto/1321680187.html
screw the justy. I refuse to drive an transverse subaru. it's just wrong. besides, I've still got the 4runner for winter use.
don't get an audi unless it's full of awd goodness. If your not getting awd, don't waste your time with FWD.
OUCH! That sucks! I am so sad to hear the the "6" got hit. It doesnt look like the side was pushed in far enough to swing a rail into the passenger side head so I bet the motor will be fine. However if the cv broke from the impact it could have sent some shock to the tranny which may not be good, but who knows. I have to agree with what everyone is saying.... avoid 2wd Audis like the plague. I know someone who is big into Audis and he got a FWD Audi 80 for a DD to put less miles on his A4. He hated the 80 for many reason (mostly revolving around the lack of AWD), the Quattro is a must have. I might have to hurt you if you buy a FWD car that was offered in a AWD configuration from the dealership.... it would be for your own good. ;-)
really like the Audi coupe. blah blah blah FWD. whatever. the engine is still pointed the right way (and the same 2.2l straight 5). and quattro coupes are way more expensive. looking into the possibility/expense of swapping to quattro. 2WD mileage would be nice! still no word from the insurance company. I'm going to call and hassle before long. searched crazedlist for "convertible" under $2k. came up with a couple REALLY cool options. First one is italian, mid-engine, and a targa: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/cto/1306479203.html second has the same motor as the 4Runner, so that's a plus. more parts-sharing! http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/cto/1323134333.html
There is a nice white Fiero for sale a few block away from my house. It would better than that old Fiat...:hsugh:
I may have a lot of hair, but it's definitely the same length in the front as it is in the back. no thanks. EDIT: just talked to my uncle about the Fiat (who's owned a couple X1/9s). I wish I had written down his words, but to paraphrase. They're plagued with little problems, they cut every corner possible when making them......I buy another in a heartbeat. so yea, if it works out...I'm buying it. also....plan for the XT6: I had planned on getting a new EA82 coupe shell for my supercharged EJ22.....but to heck with it, I can probably fix this one for less than it would cost to buy a new coupe shell and paint it...
got it home yesterday, still fighting with the insurance company, ugh. But I noticed (I don't know how I overlooked it...) some more damage on the rear quarter. the other car must have spun after the initial impact and hit the rear quarter as well. took the fenders, bumper, and headlights off. it looks fixable. I think I'm just going to attach a big ol' D ring to the bumper mount, and with the help of my 4runner and a chain, give it a good yank in the opposite direction from the impact. only noticeable damage to the frame is right under the airbox mount. there's a small kink. But the front end is definitely pushed off to the side. somehow the washer tank with only minor bumps and bruises. Intake silencer.....not so much
you could probably just do what i did to micheals impreza that I just sold. cut along factory welds and replace the whole thing. there's got to be another XT in you could cut in a junk yard somewhere. Or: use a come-a-long instead of the 4runner + chain. much less messy.
