...because of the virtual machine. I know I know, this isn't big news for all the geeks here, but it has a serious practical application for me. I've had this computer for two days, and I'm finally getting it sorted out. Anyways, I can run my Link software, Zeitronix, Mitchell, among other things I have not gotten to yet, without issue. Once installed in the XP environment, everything is gravy baby, like KFC. Also, ThinkPad's kick ass.
I like windows 7. Haven't had a single problem with it .. except Silent Hill 2 doesn't save. There is a fix though, so I'm happy.
yea, I'm very impressed. been running it for a couple months so far. I'm not a fan of the GUI, I wish I could have a "windows classic" theme or something like XP had. I also miss my quick-launch bar. I'm not a fan of the "new" taskbar thing. the virtual PC thing doesn't work on mine, hardware too old. so there are a few programs that have issues. so I still have XP installed on the other partition..... also, Thinkpads do kick ass.
Microsoft has released a patch so you can run XP Mode if you don't have a CPU with VT-n. It's on their XP Mode download page. It will make your machine run slow, but it can work.
Waiting for Bullwinkle to chime in that Vista wasn't that bad.... Virtual machines rule for some stuff but isn't the answer to all and they have their own issues in a production environment.
I'd say Vista wasn't that bad either. I used primarily on a Tablet PC and it was light-years better than XP IMO. I also love Windows 7 and find it to be a vast improvement over Vista. I do wish that I could upgrade to 7 at work. I am on XP right now, and Windows 7 is available to us, however some of the software I develop in doesn't work on 7. I have to wait for us to upgrade later this year so I can get 7!
o rly? I'm off to find this patch!! yea, it's still not quite what I'm looking for. I dunno, maybe I haven't found all the settings to customize it to my liking. quick launch is not there. you can pin shortcuts to the toolbar, but then they get pushed around if you have another pinned program open. so they're not always in the same place. I also don't like having the show desktop button way over in the corner.... but like I said, little GUI things. I'm sure I'll get used to it. My only complaint with Vista (since I didn't use it long enough to really get to know it), was it was such a resource hog. It was virtually un-usable on any of my computers. Vista 64-bit ran slower on my desktop than XP 32-bit. which makes no sense, as XP was only utilizing half of the processing power. windows 7 x64 runs noticeably faster than even XP x64 did on this computer.
Right click in the taskbar area Toolbars>New Tool Bar In the folder location: %appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch You'll see the quick launch show up in the Right hand corner (make sure you have unlocked your task bar), drag it over. Right click on the "Quick Launch" text and uncheck "Show Text" and "Show title" Quick Launch is back in da house.

Finally, Microsoft puts out an OS that ranks just above Okay. It is nice, but it doesn't quite qualify for "kick ass". That's just what Microsoft wants you to think....
I'm not really into computers, so for me, it does. The fact that I didn't have to buy a machine downgraded to XP is rather nice. Besides, it was my idea. lol
I have Windows 7 on my desktop and vista on my laptop and it is a pita when i have to use my laptop. Like night and day. ? did anyone have problems with 7 randomly having to restart because of mcaffee.
I heard about the McAffee issue, I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free and does a really great job without hogging resources. In fact it hardly uses any. It has the 4th lowest memory usage of any application running on my laptop right now.
