Getting ready to post next month's event. I just have to get out to the restaurant and give it a whirl. Those of you who attended the last event should already have a good idea of the destination.

Will this be on 3/10? Rough time estimate? I'm planning on getting my tint done that day, but I can join after.

I'm thinking about pushing it back one week. I'm going to be in Chicago all next week and will probably be fried when I get back. Updates soon.

Definitely pushing back one week. I'm out of town all next week and dealing with buying a used beater this week. I won't have time to scout for routes around the possible locations. I was hoping to use Ol Mexico with last month's route. I like that route. We checked it out this week and I was not impressed with the service or the food. It's just like any other national chain "mexican" joint. Not bad, but not worth making a special trip. Food was meh. Seating was weird. Service was cold and barely adequate. I can do better than that.

So, we're probably looking at 3/17. MAYBE Saturday 3/16 since one of the spots I want to try isn't open on Sundays. I'll get the date locked in before I leave for Chicago on Sunday.

No worries. I'm not concerned with random makes showing up for these so long as they let me know they're coming and I can deal with logistics accordingly. The bigger annual cruises can be a little touchy.

Damn, sorry dude. I feel badly 'cause I told you it was good at last month's event. I must have been drunk last time I was there or something. <-very possible.

It's not that it was outright bad. I'd go there with the wife and kid again if we were in the area and felt like some Mexican-ish food. It's just not what I'm looking for with the Drive n' Dine events. The food could have come from Don Pablo's, Chilis, Applebee's, what-have-you. There just wasn't any wtf-how-is-this-so-good about it. I also have little confidence in their ability to deal with a crowd of derelict hooligans.

Maverick's was a perfect example of exactly what I'm looking for. They focus on a couple things and do them REALLY well... yet people are unlikely to have eaten there unless they live(d) in the area. Bonus points for a place with food so good/served so fast that they don't have time for you to hum and haw over the menu for 5 minutes while holding up the line. Little gems...

Oh well, hopefully I'll find something else in that area. I really like that route and want to use it in the future. Maybe I'll do it in reverse and we can hit Best Steak House on White Bear and Larpenteur or something. Best cheap-ass steak you'll ever gnosh on and the salad bar is suspiciously tastier than it ought to be given the simplicity.

All are welcome, come on out. And if you're interested in buying a Subaru, I know a few people that will gladly talk you right into (or out of?) one!

Basically MNsubaru in general...real life has been eating up too much of my time the past couple of months!

I'm glad you guys enjoyed Mavericks though. The owners/managers are great there and the food is delicious.

Well, I've never been here...but I've heard very good things about it and it's kind of out in the middle of nowhere, so there has to be good roads to cruise on.

    http://www.riverinnhanover.com/index.html

And I am for sure in for the March meet.

Added to the list to check out. :)

I have quite a few places worth hitting out on the boonies. For now I'm keeping it to the short and sweet routes when possible.

This month is a cluster f*$& for me.

    Two options:

    1. Cancel and wait for next month.
    2. Run the Maverick's route in reverse and meet at Best Steak House this sunday.

    Thoughts?

Damn straight. Best Steak House and Little Oven are always worth the trip, even from Apple Valley. It shouldn't be possible to get that much good grub for that little money.

I might try to remedy the fact that i'm still standing, instead.

Alright, let's do 12:30 so people have time to get their Irish on and still recover later. It will be a small group anyway so I'm not super worried about disturbing people before the crack of noon.

Definitely a place worthy of the drive, and my favorite BBQ joint in the metro area.

Ironically when I was there on Saturday there were a couple of newer Subaru's parked out front.

One thing to mention on a large group attending is they serve food family style by the pound or portion of a pound, which would require a little organizing or maybe people splitting up into couple person groups for ordering?

I'll bump it up the list of possible future locations. Normally I can work something out with the owner/manager when I go in for a pre-run. I worry about that stuff so you don't have to. :)

It would be a little weird given how quick, cheap and delicious best steak house is... :uhhuh:

Probably. They are a "cafeteria" style hole in the wall steak joint. It's not a fancy pants sit down experience. You should be able to get in and out of there in 30-45 minutes so long as they aren't slammed. If you ask nice you might be able to get the group to let you go first. No promises though, some of these folks can get testy if you try to get between them and a steak... ;)

I caught on that you guys went to a different Mavericks than I thought you did, with that being said I definitely recommend the Mavericks in Champlin off of West River Road. Good beer on tap, great wood fired burgers/chicken, and just across 169 there are some nice country roads to cruise on.

I'm originally from Champlin, and have eaten there a few times, its a nice little place!
