My sons 04 Forester XT is currently parked with NF for repairs.

Completely stock 144K was running great.

Threw a P0011 code last week and the turbo started making noises.

I found a replacement TD04 Nuke fitted but that's making noises too. We are not yet sure if this replacement was bad or something else is wrong causing the problems. Nukes not going to look at it again until next week.

So far I am into about $500 for parts/repairs (replaced the alternator too) but this is going to go up if more problems found.

My son is not really into fast cars and the XT is wasted on him ;o)

Rather than spend more on repairs I am considering just offloading it and getting him something else.

The oil looked clean (no metal bits) when I inspected it but very worse case it may need a rebuild.

There is no external rust, a few minor parking dings, and a small tear in the driver seat.

The only other problem is a sticky tailgate latch.

It has had a timing belt change around 100K, new brakes last year and new snow tires last winter (still on the car - my son drives so slow we were going to keep them on all year). Since I have had it it has been having 3000 mile oil changes.

It could be a cheap fix or expensive rebuild I don't know.

If I get it repaired next week (whatever needs doing) I will keep it.

If you are mechanically talented and want to take this on - flip it, keep it or make a project car for $4000 it's yours (I will cover the NF repairs to date).

I don't have a picture of it but it looks like any other 04 Forester XT (Silver).

Well since I can't figure out to edit, I see it has auto in the title.
    Free double bump.

Thanks - the first turbo definitely died but may have been due to oil starvation, I am not sure if the second turbo is still good - it's in the hands of NF now and they know what they are doing, maybe it is just a cheap fix as you highlight.

I'm thinking of getting out of subaru ownership altogether after this issue (see my Outback XT for potential sale)

    Sorry , no .

Changed the turbo, removed the crappy banjo filters, swapped to a Grimspeed up pipe and cleaned the OCV's and the car is now running good. We have put a few hundred miles on it since the fix with no further problems problems. I'll check with my son of he wants to sell it but the price would be > $5k. If so I'll put it on another thread.

    Mods please close thread .

    Thanks
