is there any difference in them, i was reading on Cobb tuning and in the 06 sti you get more power out of them vs the 05, did they do anything differently between the two years?

I'm still learning all the differences. But the only one so far that comes to mind is the drive shaft to the rear diff is lighter which means less rotational mass. They also went to 1.1:1 ratio to the drive shaft to reduce rotation between the transmission to the rear diff.

With the exception of the obvious pig nose.

stock. Although it's pretty useless. The jdm switch at least stays on for a few seconds after you push it.

There are more (non-aesthetic) differences between the 06-07 than the 05-06 imho.

Nice observation carp face. ;) Please take that with the light hearted intention I mean not starting a flame war or anything. I like the Evo.

I thought they were good in a heat soak situation like stop and go traffic that is suddenly go. I know ice is useless since it is the water evaporation not the water temperature that was the key to cooling.

There are many mechanical and cosmetic differences between the USDM '05 and '06 STI. However, most people will not notice any of the mechanical differences while driving. The mechanical differences are subtle until you take the car to the extremes. This includes differences in tuning.

While not the end all list this will give you an idea.

    http://www.iwsti.com/forums/faq-newbie-forum/29240-list-differences-between-2005-2006-sti.html

The non JDM swith stayed on for a few seconds after it was pushed. The JDM switch stayed on all the time until you pushed it again. I ran the JDM switch with a booster pressure activated switch and was able to add about 1-1.5 degrees of timing using it compared to not. For sure noticeable on the warmer days.

Yeah honestly when it comes down to it, the biggest difference between the two is the front end. I think the '04/'05 body style is the nicest since GC8's, with the exception of the '11 model. In '05 they made most of the major changes in suspension geometry, better wheel bearings, etc. If it came down to an '04 vs '05... it would easily be an '05, but choosing between an '05 and an '06... it really comes down to your taste in the body as Nuke said.

If you can't decide on the looks, go for the better deal.

the biggest issues i have heard between the 05 and 06... the 06 went with liquid filled motor mounts and had issues breaking... they went back to solid ones partway through the MFY irc...

Just in case you have future plans of modding...especially the heads, go with the 06 cuz the heads are much better than 04/05 heads, as they flow more after porting and are bigger (Fuji K can explain further). But for looks i would go for 04/05 front.

The torque split was changed from 35/65 to 41/59 for the 06MY.
