I'm entertaining this idea at the moment. Anyone have one they would consider trading and with a small denomination.
I found a WRX deck on e-bay for about $150 and had all the holes welded shut and readied for paint. I then sold the wing on e-bay for $75. then painted the deck to match the STi(black pearl)It doesn't look like too bad a' job to switch. Has anyone done this?
I have a blue (WRB) wingless trunk I would like to trade fro a STi trunk. The dealer promised he would make this happen when I bought the car, but that was in July so I dont think that is happening.
Guys- The trunk lids for ALL the WRX's including the STi are interchangeable fit-wise. There are basically three different lids for them. The non-hole lid, the one that is predrilled for the low WRX trunk wing and the one that is drilled for the STi wing. You obviously will want to swap over the trunk lock and latch assembly, and weatherstrip. Some other thinks to think about are the trunk springs- put a non-wing lid on a STi and you got one heck of a catapult when you pull the trunk release! The opposite is true if you put the STi wing on the back of another car- the trunk will not stay up. One other thing to think about is the third brake light. There is not third brake light in the back window on the STi's. It's in the wing, and if you take the wing off, then your car is technically no longer DOT compliant. You can put a WRX or RS third brake light in the rear deck. The wiring is there, all you need are the parts. WRX owners can unplug there rear deck third brake light and plug in the wing light. Then comes the paint issue. Subaru has made it hard for us to swap wings because they didn't offer many colors on the STi as the same on the WRX. More often than not you have to have the wing and lid painted. That changes the price a bit also. Just wanted to pass the info along...
