*exhaust sound clip added* *dyno runs with new mods added* *new pics added* Scroll down to see new material Hello everyone, Just recently picked up an 05 WRX Wagon in Obsidian black. Was referred to this website by a friend of mine and am also a member over at NASIOC as well. A little on my background, I am out of Fargo, ND. Never owned a subaru before, this will be my first! Before that I've had a 00' Eclipse GT, 99' Wrangler, 11' Wrangler unlimited, 02' Commemorative Edition 225 Audi TT Quattro. I purchased the WRX while on deployment here in Bahrain and have yet to see it..... risky move I know, and hopefully she's ok when I get home and actually check it over to see what the previous owner molested. Had her checked over with 2 dealers once when I bought it and once after I bought it to ensure the engine was still good. Numbers all came back good, so I'm hoping there are no issues. The parts that were on the car when I purchased it originally are as follows: nameless header nameless downpipe Borla catback exhaust Sedan aftermarket bumper pulled and kinked wagon fenders intake silencer delete My plans are to make this car a fun, reliable yet quick car so I was thinking Stage 2 and be happy with it for a while. Not looking for anything super fast as I have an 06' Ninja ZX10R to keep me happy during the summer months. So far I've purchased some 04' BBS gold STi wheels, sedan fenders, COBB Access Port, and looking into getting 06' tails and blacking them out. After that, I'll probably get a nice set of coilovers and some Perrin sway bars. Anyway thanks for looking, here's some pics my parents snagged for me. Haven't had a chance to pick apart this exhaust system to see what diameter or complete make up it is. But I do know it is a turbo back (catless) with a Cobb catback. Other alterations are a Blow-off valve (eww, BPV getting purchased) and intake silencer delete. My buddy took this video for me so I could hear how it sounded, as I am away from home. Tell me if you think it's "raspy" in the higher RPM range, because to me it definitely sounds like it is. But then again I'm new to Subaru, so I'm looking for some input. Here are the NEW parts that I've put in since the purchase *Engine/exhaust*********************new parts turbo back COBB exhaust COBB Up-pipe (catless) STi top mount intercooler STi JDM pink STi injectors 255 Walbro fuel pump COBB SF intake VF43 turbo *Exterior************************new parts Sedan front bumper Sedan front fenders 04 Gold BBS' wheels stockies flourescent green winter wheels 35% all around tint STi carbon fiber hoodscoop Some pictures of how it sits today, sorry not very good. But I haven't gone out for a proper photoshoot since it's been in maintenance mode with the new parts. The pigs have since been removed. I will have to snag some decent ones here in the next few days Here are some vids from my dyno run on Jan 16th 2013. putting 264hp/245tq at 18psi on a mustang dyno.
Nice find! and thank you for your service. My advice would be to save your money on the COBB AP and get yourself an open-source tune from Nuke @ NF performance and you will be more than happy. Welcome to the site and I look forward to seeing this sweet ride in person.
I agree with ditching the AP. Unless you want to run multiple maps(pump and e85). An open source tune from Nuke, Bullwinkle(if he is still tuning), or Ron at RS will accomplish the same thing with out buying the AP. I would look into Whiteline sway bars and some Kartboy end-links. I have ran this combo on all of my modded Subarus. The Perrin units have some noisy end-links. I kinda like the front bumper. But, this will all be up to you.
The COBB AP was more of a nice utility tool with the launch control, multiple mapping, data logging, and code reader. But all that isn't really "needed" I do DEFINITELY want to get it tuned though, as I am unsure what the previous owner did as far as the tune goes. My parents say it runs fine, but who knows, only thing that sucks is I would have to probably drive all the way to the cities to get it and that's a long drive without a tune. Would that be a bad idea? As long as I stay out of boost and it seems to drive fine I should be ok yes? I like the front bumper, just need to see if it looks good in person and flows with the car. Also need to check fitment on it too because it looks iffy in a few spots. Ugh, just need to get home already.
Ap is nice for all that stuff. Where are you/the car at? Should be OK if you stay out of boost, but that is very very hard with a small turbo.
I'm located in Fargo, ND... so the cities is 3+ hour drive at 75mph...... might have to borrow a trailer and pay someones gas
Not really too picky to be honest, I just want someone with experience and who knows exactly what they are doing with these cars. A couple people have referenced a few places, but nothing is set in stone. So I'm open to suggestions.
Well personally I go NF and always will. I won't speak for nuke but he is more open to where to tune because its a road tune. Also if you just have the exhaust/intake, you should be able to just flash a stage 2 tune on the car to get to the cities safely. Any extra parts (injectors, turbo, and such) would be a much harder trip untuned.
Lol its because they aren't a shop. Just a few guys that do everything on subarus mechanically. NF stands for Nuke and Fuji, the guys that started it. Now they have grown to a handful of people who do the work on the cars and an army of followers.
Greg, youll be fine goingto the cities on the highway as the car is. Youll be able to tell if something is way off right away.
added an exhaust sound clip that my buddy took for me! please feel free to provide feedback, as I'm a little curious on it's raspyness.
