Well guys and gals... looks like Mazdas got back into the game of AWD and turbo.

Mazda is prepping its own entry for the Subie-Mitsu rally wars—a 276-hp, 265-lb-ft Mazda 6 scheduled for a mid-2005 world debut. Spotted during hot-weather tests in the California desert, this sizzling prototype gets a twin-turbocharged and intercooled 2.3-liter four that is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and sends power via all-wheel drive to 18-inch tires.

Based on Mazda’s Mazda Performance Series concept shown in Paris in 2002, the production model should debut at this September’s Paris show, carrying either the MPS or MazdaSpeed moniker.

Twin turbo 4? Sequential? Two very low pressure turbos?

Very cool. I'm glad that there's so many more fun car options!!

Man when I bought my A4, it was the only AWD turbo option. The GSX had been phased out, the WRX wasn't here yet... now look at all the options! w00t!

Won't be running in the WRC with those specs. Displacement limit is 2000cc and only one turbo. Also won't be running Group N in the SCCA series, that engine and extra turbo easily put it into Open class.

Big question will be what the price tag is. If they keep it under 25k then it should turn out to be a good deal. We'll have to wait and see how it performs and what tuning options will be available. Since it's new it may be hard to find aftermarket equipment for it right away. It should still find a market pretty quick.

Looks like everyone is jumping on the AWD band wagon. About time really. Just saw the new SAAB 92x with AWD. Welcome to the 21st century SAAB :D

Glad to see companies coming out with AWD instead of all that nonsense talk I heard about companies going back to RWD. Talk about a step backwards that would be.

Now I wish Subaru would own up to last years press release proclaming all models will come standard with turbos just like they all come with AWD. Wonder if the headgasket issues with the 2.5 are whats hodlnig them back?

Don't you think the 9-2X looks a wee bit familiar visually, not to mention the two options are a 165hp 2.5 4-cylinder or a 227hp 2.0 4-cylinder? Those things are rebadged Imprezas. The Saaburus. My take on that is SOA decided the Subaru badge wasn't classy enough so Saab picked it up so people would think they're driving a European car instead of a Japanese one. Similar to what all the other Japanese manufacturers did with Honda/Acura, Nissan/Infinity, and Toyota/Lexus. I wonder what Mazda's "elite" marque will be.
