Name: Eric Car: 2008 Impreza 2.5i 5-speed First let me start off with that I am very green when it comes to brakes. With that being said, I would like to do a rear brake conversion on my 08 2.5i. I have searched Google, Nasioc, MNSubaru, etc. I have found plenty of information on older models. I would assume it's roughly the same process. However, those threads do not help me with finding parts/part #'s. I know of one member on Nasioc (VDMTom I believe is his username) who did a conversion. I have tried messaging him but no respond (Most likely an inactive member). I figured a lot of you guys probably know exactly what I need. I don't really have a problem buying new parts if I can't source them locally/used. If anyone can help, this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Best idea for part numbers would be to talk to a dealership most likely. Don't think there are parts diagrams up for 08 Imprezas anywhere.
Unless your doing Auto X or something I'd stick with stock. (Perhaps step into something else if you want a sportier car?) There's very little merit for the conversion if your just gonna be driving the car to work. However it's your car you can do as you like.
I would like to swap because the price will probably be in the same ballpark. They also look much better. I will try the dealership out.
^Agreed, the money it will cost to do this for minimal gains may not be worth it. New backing plates, brake lines calipers, and I am pretty sure new parking brake, those parts alone will be $600-$800 new, that's not including choosing rotors and pads. If your mind is set on doing it, I would look either for a 2009 2.5i in a yard, or WRX and maybe save some money.
Calipers, rotors and pads are easy to come by for cheap. The rest however is going to be difficult. Besides lines, and backing plates what else is needed? If you are referring to the e-brake, I already swapped in one from a WRX. Exact same thing, just different color. Thanks for the help so far guys.
my understanding is that is everything. I had a 09 2.5i and an 09'WRX, I recall the knuckles being the same and the sensors aren't different, so I think that is it.

That link didn't work but i'll check that site out too.. I did find this, but no part #'s. I wonder if Walser, or Morries has a part catalog. If I can get the backing plates and lines for a couple hundred, this will be fairly cheap. Rotors, calipers and pads will be on the way shortly. http://www.subarupartsamerica.com/p...&component=&searchText=&startRow=21&maxRow=10
Yeah, I think my link was based on my cookies. My total came to $241 for backing plates and brake lines, Then Erik at Mntka can get the MNsubaru discount, don't quote me but I think it's 15-20%
Nice. I guess the only thing is the knuckles, hopefully they are the same. I believe the parts discount at Morries is 15%. Been awhile since I bought something though.
Parts diagrams/numbers for 08+imprezas. http://opposedforces.com/parts/impreza/us_g12/ With the older cars, the knuckles are the same, but you have to press the bearing apart to swap the backing plate, so most people grab the whole mess. 08+ I believe is bolt-in bearing/hub assembly. So swapping the backing plate should be much easier. I would be very shocked if the knuckle itself was different, as that would lead them away from what has worked so well for over 20 years before that ('85 was the first year for rear disc....)
Thanks for that info Chux. I have rotors, calipers, pads, all the hardware and stop tech lines on the way. Everything has 3,200 miles on them so basically new. Hopefully the backing plates will be all that's left.
I believe the OP is slowly turning his 2.5i into a WRX, one piece at a time. Last I saw most of the interior was done. Don't hate, just appreciate.
Had some goodies show up today. All of these have under 3,200 miles on them according to the seller. Got them pretty much free too! Anyone want to give me a hand? New Brakes by Fancyftwork15, on Flickr
Anytime really. I just need to make sure I have all the parts! Either just backing plates left or the entire assembly.
