ok i just got done reading the CEL on my car and it said that i have a cylinder 1 and 3 misfire, it also said that i hade a code 0300 but didnt find that one. i need to know why that happens, and what i can do about it, also how much does it cost to get it fixed. i have an 02 wrx with AP and down pipe. about 101,780 miles on it. if thats of any significanse. thanks guys
0300 to the AP. Means multiple misfire. Although I guess that isn't a real ODB II code from what I've read on NASIOC. Not sure if the dealerships can diagnose it with the ECU and a AP map. Atleast Sogonerg wasn't sure when I asked him. I've had the same problem.
oh well does it effect your driving. like loss of horespower or just overall smoothness of the engine?
Well, it only happens when the engine is cold and warming up. Otherwise it doesn't just happen during a drive down the freeway. I never feel hesitation or hear anything. I dunno, I pretty much gave up on trying to figure it out after pm'd Sogonerg and Brian(never recieved a reply from him). I tried all the advice NASIOC, Cobb and MNsubaru gave me and it never really helped. Hoped flashing to stage 2 would maybe correct something, but I got the CEL with stage 2 also...
true. although i took it out for a long drive and sometimes it felt like some hesitation when driving down the highway, and i did noticie i happened when it wormed up. but i would still like to get it fixed and like to know why it happened in the first place thanks Dizmal for the info
0300 is generic misfire detected... doesnt specify which cylinder... ie: 0301, 0302 etc.... it does that on all cars... could be an injector too..... get a thorough injection system clean.... seafoam.. is another idea but a really good 3 step injection system clean is good... we did it on Mikes car... not sure if it solved hsi issue but he said it felt beter afterwards... the throttle bodies get gunked up with carbon so you can imagine what the injectors look like.... just a thought
Try swaping the #1 and #3 coils with #2 and #4. See if the missfire follows. I would think an ignition falure would be a more common cause then an injector. But hey anything is possible.
iam going to have Matt help me tonight and we are going to see what we find. i hope it all gets fixed. will post updates soon.
Does your car hesitate at all? Like it feels like the injectors may be clogged or something? You loose that smoothness. I noticed my car hasn't felt like that and I haven't had a misfire CEL for some time now. It runs smooth, and no feeling of it bogging down for split seconds anymore. Not sure, I put a few fuel system cleaner bottles in a while ago and they didn't seem to help. Now it runs good. /boggle May want to have Matt check them out, besides a compression test. I know I was going to have Russ do my inectors but they feel fine lately. /crosses fingers
yeah they seem to be a bit better now. dosent shake as much and the code is gone. iam going to put some seafom in the tank and see if that helps a bit to. but Matt did a good job and switching the packs might have helped.
So switching the coil packs helped. That kind of confuses me. I was recomending it just to see if the missfire followed the coil packs. Weird.
So what did Matt do? I may have to pm him and have him tinker with mine? Seafoam was definately in mind and so was swapping coils. It seems to be cylinder 4 95% of the time. Unless its just a beat up cylinder with low compression:emo: I jinxed myself with my last post in this thread and got 2 cel's 1 yesterday and 1 this morning. Although it still runs smooth. But I have 130,000 miles on the old girl.:eek3:
ha ha that stinks. sorry to hear. yeah he just changed the plugs and switched the coil packs. i put some of the magical seafom in and it seemed to clear some of the gunk out as well. yeah talk to him he did a great job. be ware though if you dont have snow tires and you mention something about it watch out. Haha just kidding. (i have about the same miles on the car as you.) and i dont know if my cylinder has low compression at all.
Yeah, I swapped plugs about 12k miles ago and it gave CEL's right after they were changed. Maybe have to swap packs /dunno
We changed the plugs and then numbered and rotated the coil packs. So if for example you get a misfire on cylinder #4 and we move the coils from that side of the motor to the other side. Then if you get a misfire of say #1 and before the coil pack was in #4 then you know it was the coil pack.
