110 is probably going to be leaded, you're not going to want to run that in your daily driver. Nor running it on an OTS map.

    E85 is your friend.
    Open ecu is your friend.
    Nuke is your best friend.

Well, you can't really say that you will gain "X" HP with 110, it is more going to based off of mods and how they react to the 110. For a while, the hot setup was 20g's on sti's, and most of them were pushing 300ish on pump and 350ish on 110.

You are able to lean out the fuel mixture and add a bit more timing to the setup, so based off of current mods your gains could be pretty large. If you are running a td04 (or really any ihi turbo), you won't be able to really crank up the boost, so you will have to concentrate on fuel and timing to get most of your gains.

High octane is about resistance to knock, the more compression the fuel can take before ignition. More compression, more stroke and more power. My simple understanding. Means building your engine to handle those compression numbers. Means good stuff but gets expensive. Get your engine situation straightened out and talk to a tuner/engine builder.

But it is dumb. You're not going to find an off the shelf Accessport map for your mods and race gas that is worth trying. Try E85. It made methanol injection and race gas sort of moot for a street car around here. Drag racing or something along those lines ... maybe.

E85 is like race gas that's cheaper than pump gas (instead of being 3x as much). It's a no-brainer.

You could see 30-50HP gains from E85 and tuning, but you'll need bigger injectors to run it in your WRX.

There are about a dozen folks on here that have run 110 on a regular basis. I will tell you this much, it will require more than just a tune, as was mentioned above. Leaded fuel wreaks havoc on your O2 sensors. And you will also want to keep up on the engine deposits, as it can collect there too. Avoid the "unleaded race fuels." At least the ones at the pump. Not sure if they worked the formulation any since the last time I was paying attention. But I do remember one car on the dyno back in 05 that actually made less power than they did on 93 running that 100 unleaded octane stuff.

Follow the advice given for the E85. It's the best bang for your buck at the moment. It requires larger injectors, and your fuel economy will suffer if you are daily driving. But in terms of power for the money, you can't beat an e85 tune. My advice would be to avoid race gas. Unless you are regularly competing at the track or strip, or you are trying to hit dyno queen numbers for a piece of paper, it is really unnecessary.

    E85 = 100 - 105 octane

You live in minnesota, you have more E85 than anyone else in the US. There is a reason why everyone says run it.

I would figure out who is going to tune your car and go from there.

NF has always been good to me.

Talk to your tuner about what you want to do and future plans. They will help you out. Think about your end goal too, you don't want to buy 700cc injectors to turn around and sell them next year because now you are going bigger.

There are many people running E85 daily. It's not very difficult around here...

There is e85 at nearly every gas station in the twin cities. Nearly every Holiday station has it.

We were just trying to prove a point that race gas is a dumb idea compared to E85.

No, no one in the 10 year history of the wrx (stateside) has ever even thought to attempt this...

I had a custom Accessport tune on a stock turbo 07sti. Actually I had a pump tune, autox tune, 100oct unleaded tune, and 110 leaded tune (most of them done by Jorge of P&L when we flew him down here). Catless. Gained an assload of torque but not much hp as the turbo was well beyond it's efficiency curve. This was 3-4 years ago when e85 wasn't as ereadily available.
Oh, and I'm def not shutting this gem of a thread down.

    Nor will I ;)

I actually pay just a few cents more per mile to drive than my wife does. I run e85 and she runs premium. I have an '04 STI and she has and '04 Forester XT. I have 445whp and she probably has 200-ish, lol. E85 is ftw.

it would be switching from premium to e85 hence the word swap. Just like a motor swap. What would the definition of swap be????

SWAP Noun: an act of exchanging one thing for another

The engine knock knock... 110 should help quite the knock knock... Help it blow up so there is no knock knock.

'E85 swap' only works on the first tank of gas.
Next time you fill up with e85, it won't be a swap anymore.

    What 20G?
    Who did the work (install/tuning)?
    Other mods?
What kind of power did it put down?

I went with the map 20g 1100cc deauchwerks injectors and e85 tune. I am able to run about 450awhp @ 28psi boost. However I am running 405awhp at 23psi. Decided to leave boost lower because not sure about bottom end of car. MAPerformance did all the work and Jordan did the tune. I am getting about 215 miles on a tank as compared to the 290 miles on 93. Definatly not a bad choice to go e85.

Yeah stock motor with forged heads. The tune was short we did not get done until like 930 at night so Jordan was on ot. It is a fun car. All together for parts install and tune was about $3000
